HOPE IN SUFFERING: Walking with Jesus They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. Mark 15:21 Dear Parishioners, GOD LOVES US! It is true. In our January 29 th bulletin I asked for your feedback regarding Lenten Station of the Cross. Surprisingly, I only heard from 2 persons. For Lenten Friday evenings we will have what we ll call Hope in Suffering: Walking with Jesus. GOD LOVES US. This is not a nice little religious phrase void of meaning. If someone loves me then that one is concerned with my well-being down to the smallest and seemingly most insignificant detail of my life. And LOVE PROPELS that one to do something to facilitate my well-being. Bingo! We live in a beautiful and fallen world. There is A PERSON WHO LOVES US and Who can and did do something and is continually doing something to facilitate our well-being. That Person is God, our providential Father Who by the power of the Holy Spirit sent us the Gift beyond all Gifts in His enfleshed Son, Jesus. God, if you will, takes on this beautiful and fallen world in the flesh of Jesus. Jesus takes our cross of sin and suffering literally upon His shoulders. He bears the weight of the burden of the pain others have caused us by their actions or inactions and that we too have caused to others, to ourselves and to God by our actions and inactions. On Lenten Fridays 7-8pm you are invited to HOPE IN SUFFERING: Walking with Jesus. March 3, 10 & 17 th will be at ASCENSION and March 24, 31 and April 7 th will be at ST. BERNARD. The evening will consist of: music (some contemporary Christian), adoration, 3 stations per evening, a personal testimony, Night Prayer and Benediction. GOD LOVES US He wants to walk with us in our suffering and infuse hope into us. Beginning March 4/5 th the Altar Servers at both of our parishes will follow the same rubrics that is, the same serving procedures. Ascension & St. Bernard Altar Server Training/Review All boys and girls ages 8 & older, grades 3-12th are invited to Altar Server training 9-11AM Saturday, January 28th AT ASCENSION or Saturday, February 18th AT ST. BERNARD. We are reworking Altar Server duties so that serving is the same (for the most part) at both Ascension and St. Bernard. THEREFORE, WE ASK THAT ALL CURRENT SERVERS AND THOSE WE DESIRE TO BECOME SERVERS ATTEND. Since the training will be the same, students from either parish can attend either of the training sessions. UPDATE: in order to switch over to the new server training standard at both parishes at the weekend masses on Feb 25/26 weekend we have added a third session for servers from both parishes to be held Saturday, Feb 25th 9-11am at St. Bernard's.
Church of the Ascension Norwood Young America, MN Sacristans Needed Serving as a Sacristan is a prayerful expression of stewardship. By preparing sacred vessels before and after Mass, sacristans are stewards of God s greatest gift the gift of Himself in the Holy Eucharist. Each act of service offered as a sacristan is an opportunity to worship and serve God with love and reverence. Please prayerfully consider if God might be calling you in this important work. Ardolf Keepsakes On February 25 th & 26 th, after the Saturday and Sunday Masses, parishioners are invited to walk through to look at some of the belongings that Fr. Ardolf left behind after he passed away and take home any keepsake that anyone may want. The rooms across from the parish office at Ascension that are storing these belongings will be open during this time. If anyone would like to make a freewill donation, you are welcome to do so. Eucharistic Adoration Wednesday, March 1st, from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Since March 1st is Ash Wednesday, and Mass is scheduled for St. Bernard at 6:45 p.m., there will be no morning Mass at St. Bernard, but the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the Chapel at 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. so please sign up for an hour or half-hour on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
