Saint Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church and School Community Our Mission Statement Saint Martin of Tours is a Roman Catholic Community bound together by the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, as we join Him in offering thanks and praise to God the Father through the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. Molded by the Word of God and nourished by the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, we are sent to seek out the lost, bind the broken, feed the hungry, and to share the Good News of God s mercy and love for all. We welcome all people of goodwill to join us in building here on Earth the coming Reign of God and so to offer to people of all ages continued formation in our Christian Faith. The Fourth Sunday of Lent March 11, 2018 Pastor s Note LOVE I have read and heard this gospel many times, and I always found it the key to understanding the work of Salvation. And after meditating, I believe these are the points that we may need to remember. -To love is to give: For God so loved the world that he gave... In the understanding of the modern culture, some may think that to love means to receive, while real love is to give, and it is in giving that our hearts are fulfilled. In order to give, sometimes we need to sacrifice ourselves that we may have something to give to others. We should understand that giving is itself a gift, and the more we give, the more we receive: O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is person that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal life. -To give the best of ourselves: God s love manifested in Jesus shows us that when God loves, he gives us the best he has: His son. The gospel says: His "only Son. Sometimes the best we have is the only thing we have. After giving, we will remain with nothing. And that is precisely the biggest fear we might have, to not know what will happen to us if we, out of love, give everything or the only thing we have. But no one who has given has not been fulfilled with blessings. Even when God gave his only son, he gained an innumerable number of sons because of the gift of his only son. As we reflect on this, we need to consider what is the best in us, or what is the best we have that we can give and share with others: talents, gifts, time and ask ourselves can we really do so. -Love always looks for the best of those who are loved: so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life. St. Thomas Aquino defined love as "willing the good of the other". Here is the key to understanding love others the destination of March 10 March 16 Saturday 5:00 Lester Mathews Sunday 7:00 Leo Flambard 8:30 ICF Deceased Members 10:00 Jerry Crayer 11:30 Cecilia Bucher 6:00 St. Martin of Tours Parishioners Monday 8:00 Sheryl Bernard & Sophia George Tuesday 8:00 Juliania & Isabella Peceli Wednesday 8:00 Jacqueline Lohr Thursday 8:00 Mary Anthonty & Anthony Lal Friday 8:00 Right to Life Saturday 8:00 Miguela Ignacio my love cannot be me: that will be selfishness. The best for us is eternal life, even if sometimes we don t understand. It is in that eternal life that there is happiness and goodness. The word love is everywhere, but not always does it refer to the real love. Love is not about me but about the others. I believe that love can be answered only with love and in the same manner that we are loved. And since God loves us and has given to us and for us the best of himself - his only son -- there cannot be any love greater than this. We should answer his love with our love, a pure love, a generous love, because it is in loving God that we receive eternal life. -Fr. Sergio

The roof has been repaired so now it is time to paint the outside of the Church. Some of you may have noticed the new chairs on the altar. They are part of the new items for the church: new altar, ambo, ambry small altar for the Chapel and, of course, the new baptismal fountain. The altar in the small chapel was donated by one of our parishioners. The altar, the ambo, the chairs are a donation in memory of Betty Leary. Faith Formation Corner For me, Lent is a special time to just particularly devote myself to God. Reflecting on all that God has given me is something that I feel is very important during this season. Jesus so willingly sacrificed himself for us. I can t even imagine the amount of pain he went through. He did it all because he loves us more than our minds can even fathom. So, I feel it is my duty to pay God back for all He has done for me. I do this by improving my prayer life. I have tried to have a more thoughtful way of praying. I have also been trying to be the best version of myself. Lent is a very special time to reflect on ourselves and our relationship with God. written by Cara Krill an 8th Grade Candidate in St. Martin's Youth Confirmation Program If you have a question you d like us to address or a Faith Formation related update you d like to share, please email Daniel (dvalcazar@stmartin.org) and I ll do my best to get to it.
