BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHEDRAL Mother Church and Parish of the Diocese of Greensburg Coat of Arms of The Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, J.C.L. Bishop of Greensburg The Thirty - First Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ November 5, 2017 Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Pot Luck Luncheon Veterans Recognition Mass Friday, November 10, 2017 12:10 PM Mass ~ Mass and light reception immediately follow in the Social Hall ~ God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, whose nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day. We pray for those who serve us now, especially those in harm s way. We pray for those in harm s way. Shield them from danger and bring them safely home. Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of peace. May the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains, the peace that saves us. Lord Jesus, hear our prayers. Amen. (immediately after the 11:30 AM Mass) Please join us for a Pot Luck Luncheon at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Social Hall immediately after the 11:30 AM Mass. Bring your favorite dish (entree, side, dessert), and we will provide the drinks. Unfortunately we will not be able to take walk-ins so.. please RSVP to: Kelly Ambrose at 814-521-7094 so we can coordinate what you are bringing and know how many of you are coming! Come and enjoy a few hours of fellowship with your parish family. There will be coloring pages for the kids as well. Also, to remind us of our own blessings, there will be a donation area where, if you choose, you can drop off paper products for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. We hope to see many of you here for this lovely event! Magi Ministry 2017 It s that time of year again! The Blessed Sacrament Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society are again grateful to be able to assist those who are less fortunate in our area. Our annual Magi Trees are located in the vestibule of the Church. Begin this blessed season with the gift of caring and giving. Take an envelope from the Magi Tree and help those less fortunate. Simply return the envelope to the parish office or drop it in the offertory baskets during Mass. Make checks payable to BSC and in the memo portion write that the donation is for Magi Ministry. NO GIFT CARDS PLEASE!

Saints for Sinners - The Lives of St. Augustine and St. Margaret ($4 Saint CD) Learning about the lives of the Saints is a great way to deepen our love of God and recommit us to His service. We are reminded of how the Lord works in the lives of ordinary people, helping us to conquer sin. In this excerpt from the book, Saints for Sinners, the incredible lives of these Saints testify to the truth of God's transforming love in those who are willing to surrender their lives to Him. These are the stories of St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Margaret of Cortona. Encounter Christ First: Then Set the World on Fire ($4 Evangelization CD) Curtis Martin, founder of FOCUS and world renowned authority on evangelization, shares how a personal encounter with Jesus is the key to following him with fidelity, gratitude, and joy. With humor and relatable examples, he also shows how experiencing Christ before evangelizing others is the biblical model witnessed to by the Apostles, and one that is certain to bear fruit in the life of any believer. Monday, November 6 Listening to the Longing with Sr. Colette Hanlon Monday, November 13 The Suffering Servant with Sr. Mirian Madden Follow the law of love We know the Pharisees were arch-villains in the gospels, but it s surprising that these enemies of Jesus actually had some things in common with him. Both wanted to reform their religion, and both saw personal faithfulness to be the way to that renewal. For the Pharisees, though, this effort meant zealous observance of Jewish religious law, while for Jesus it meant rethinking that law in a whole new way. The Pharisees allied themselves with those in political power. Jesus, on the other hand, was a victim of politics, and his authority was a conduit for God s healing love, not a means of control. How can you exercise your authority for good? The Greensburg Area St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring an OUTDOOR food distribution on Monday, November 13, 2017. Operation Fresh Express is held in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Food Bank. Volunteers are requested to arrive by 3:00 PM and we are normally done by 5:00 PM. We need a minimum of 30 volunteers for this to run smoothly. Please come and join us as we feed our neighbors in need. Don t forget to dress for the weather!!!
