Collection for the Holy Land Good Friday Pope Francis has asked all parishes around the world to take up a collection for Christians in the Holy Land on Good Friday, March 30. Your financial gifts enable the Franciscan community to provide education, formation, build homes for the poor and orphans, support senior care facilities, and preserve Christian shrines all in the Holy Land. And most important during this time of war and unrest, this collection will provide humanitarian aid to refugees. On Good Friday, please stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land and help our Franciscan brothers and sisters. Anointing at all Weekend Masses April 14 th and 15 th The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will be offered at all weekend Masses on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 th and 15 th. Treats will be offered after all Masses. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. Jesus in the Gospels: Why the Search for the Historical Jesus Makes No Sense for Catholics (and other Christians) A Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary Theology Day Sometimes it seems that every month there is a new book on Jesus in Barnes and Noble. In fact the search for the historical Jesus amongst scholars has been going on for over 150 years with little agreement to show for the effort. This theology day presentation will explore the history of the search for the elusive Jesus of history followed by a provocative suggestion: the search for the historical Jesus makes no sense for Catholics. Instead we should focus on the Jesus presented to us in the Gospels, that is, the real Jesus.
