OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, It is so good to see so many already signed up for our Area Faith Directory. There is still time to sign up for a photo session, or to submit a good quality picture to include. On the morning of November 1, we had an electrical glitch in which we lost one of our three phases (apparently a mouse got into the transformer on the corner of Nicollet and Broadway which feeds us electricity). If our count is correct, this is the fourth time this has happened causing us problems. This time, it shut down our boiler and the computer that controls our heating and cooling system (with thankfully no permanent damage to either), and our voicemail/automated answering and call routing system. The voicemail system was completely destroyed. After some calls, we were connected to a company who came in on Tuesday of this week and installed a new system for about $2,500. If you tried to call after hours, you were unable to get anyone nor leave messages with us. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are in communication with the City about what we can do to avoid this in the future. While at it, every now and then, I receive a call on the rectory line (934-5086) to connect to someone on the parish staff. I currently have the Rectory line transferring to my cell phone for when I am away from the Rectory (instead of having another voicemail box), but this line is unable to transfer to the parish offices. The Parish office number remains to be 931-1628, so please call that number for all parish business. The new automated answering system (after hours or with no answers) will pick up and give options for extensions, or someone will assist you when we answer. To get me, either call the Rectory or my parish extension at 931-1628, #110. This weekend, we welcome Fr. Mark Mallak who is covering for me as I am assisting with the youth Fall Retreat. Please keep the youth in prayer as we gather with them. This weekend, as well, we will view the DMA video. As in past years, it has been posted to the diocesan website (www.dnu.org), so if you missed it or wish to review it, check there. In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Watching the video today, we are reminded of the good work the DMA is doing in ministries too big for parishes to do alone, but ministries that are important to us. Remember, in supporting the DMA, we contribute to those important ministries in the diocese, but we also support the project we have identified for our parish, reducing our short-term line of credit. As we reflect on what our pledge should be, prayerfully keep in mind God s generosity to you. Recognizing that generosity, the DMA offers a great opportunity to return to God some of that generosity we have received. ************************************************************************************************************************************** AFC Pictorial Sign Up News Our Area Faith Community of St. Peter and Nicollet will be producing a new pictorial directory with Lifetouch. Robert Spitzer, SJ, PhD Episode 13 How can we prove God s existence? Through faith and reason. The universe itself proclaims the existence of a creator, and the principle of intelligent design leads to logical conclusions about the nature of God. Join Jesuit scholar Fr. Robert Spitzer as he lends insight into new evidence gathered from the fields of philosophy and physics. Wed., Nov. 19, 9:00 pm Nov. 20, 10:00 am All families, especially those with children, are invited to attend an Advent Prayer Service with Bishop John M. LeVoir on Sunday, December 14. The service is at 2 pm in Winsted at the Church of the Holy Trinity. This service is designed to help us focus on Advent and prepare for the true meaning of Christmas, centered on the birth of Jesus. Families are encouraged to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their home nativity set. The figure will be blessed by Bishop LeVoir individually as families come forward in procession. There will be a blessing on families and expectant mothers as they prepare for Jesus birth in their hearts. A swaddling clothes collection (blankets, sleepers, layette items, etc.) will be taken for babies in need and given to Friends of San Lucas, area Birthright Centers, or First Choice Pregnancy Services. Cash donations will be taken to First Choice Pregnancy Services in New Ulm. For more information, contact the diocesan evangelization and catechesis offices at 507-233-5325.

Church of St. Paul November 16, 2014 Pastor - Fr. Todd Petersen Parish Office 507-232-3857 Parish Pastoral Associate - Parish Hall 507-232-3897 Deacon Steven Spilman Office Hours: Tuesday - Thursday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm CHURCH OF ST. PAUL SUNDAY COLLECTION 11/9/14 Adult - $1,182.00 / Youth - $2.00 / Plate - $55.00 Votive Candles $58.00 What is it of worth to the master, (God), that you have been entrusted with while you wait for his return, (the second coming of Jesus Christ at the final judgment)? You might be the best at hunting or fishing or sewing or cooking. You might be a genius at business or mathematics. Perhaps you re a musician or vocalist. Any of these things can be thought of as a gift from God. We are taught to put these gifts to work for his glory and so we should. But the question calls for a little deeper reflection. What is it that you have been given for the purpose of building up the kingdom of God just as the servants in the parable were given to build up their master s estate? Have you been given children or grandchildren to pass your faith in God onto? How is that going? Do you pray with them and for them? Are you helping their faith grow? Do you talk about Jesus with them? Have you shared God s Law, the Ten Commandments and the Two Greatest Commandments with them? Better yet, are you setting the example of following God s Law by the way that you live and the example that you set? Remember, Love God and each other. Don t bear false witness against anyone. Keep the Sabbath holy. You remember them. If you can and want to do better, partake in the Sacraments. That s why Jesus gave them to us. What about your own soul and your relationship with God through Jesus Christ? Do you have a good relationship through prayer? Are you in fear of your master like the servant who buried what he had out of fear? Or are you willing to take some risk for your faith? Have you shared your faith with someone who doesn t believe yet? God exists whether people believe or not. It isn t our faith that created God. God created us and he wants everyone to know that he is the one true God. It s the mission of every baptized person to spread that Good News in the world. As long as we are living, breathing, creatures of God, we re

called to share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ with others through our words, actions, and example. As Paul says in the second reading, we are children of the Light. Let s live that way so to be ready for the master s return. The faithful servant is always ready and anxious for the master s return. He doesn t sleep in when there s work to be done. D.S.
