Lumen Christi CATHOLIC COMMUNITY 2055 Bohland Avenue Saint Paul, MN 55116 Phone 651-698-5581 www.lumenchristicc.org We are called to be the Light of Christ in the world. Mission Statement September 10, 2017 Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A If two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. Prayer for those Suffering from the Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey Loving God, maker of heaven and earth, protect us in your love and mercy. Send the Spirit of Jesus to be with us, to still our fears and give us confidence. In the stormy waters, Jesus reassured his disciples by his presence, calmed the storm, and strengthened their faith. Guard us from harm during this storm and renew our faith to serve you faithfully. Give us the courage to face all difficulties and the wisdom to see the ways your Spirit binds us together in mutual assistance. With confidence we make our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Welcome Ministry We will have a special breakfast for new members on Sunday, September 24 after the 10:30 Mass. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, serving and clean-up. Please call the parish office to sign-up, 651-698-5581. Thank you for warmly welcoming our new members. PARISH NEWS New Parishioner Registration New Parishioner registration is offered after Masses this Sunday. A parish representative will meet with you to fill out the paperwork and answer any questions. Lumen Christi Catholic Community warmly welcomes Olivia Nelson & Louis Aquinas Mernin into the community of faith. Thanks for Helping! A special thank you to Fran Ring and Joe Peterson for chairing the Block Party the last two years. The success of the Block Party is largely due to their hard work, organizational skills and creativity. Of course any event like this takes many volunteers and we sincerely thank all who contributed. You make a difference! Q. Why change our altar wine? A. To more fully engage our senses by using a wine which is dark in color, has a strong bouquet and a sweet taste so that the invitation to take and drink from the Cup might become an even richer human experience. We received negative feedback when the Sunset Blush wine we ve been using (9% alcohol) became bitter and sour; it has little flavor, a light bouquet, and is pink in color. So Fr. Paul, staff members and several Eucharistic Ministers have been researching the option of using another altar wine. Soon we will begin using an approved Mont La Salle altar wine, which comes from the Napa Valley region and is produced in the Christian Brothers tradition. We chose the St. Paul, which is a light, sweet red wine garnet red in color, with a strong bouquet and a sweet taste (12% alcohol). Canon Law states that the wine must be natural wine of the grape and not corrupt. This means that the wine must be substantially pure, natural juice obtained from the pressing of the cultivated grape, the fruit of the vine, fermented to an alcohol content of not less than 5% and not more than 18%. To be labeled sacramental wine, the product must be approved by the bishop of the vineyard s diocese. We will offer the St. Paul wine for a few months to determine if this change is a good one for our community; please feel free to offer us your feedback. It is our hope that we may be richly blessed as we take and drink from the Cup of our Salvation. Blessings, Sister Lynore, Director of Worship

No registration required, times flexible, we meet in the First Floor Conference Room. tim.murphy@printwarellc.com Pope s Quotes Wars are Fed "It makes no difference where arms come from; they circulate with brazen and virtually absolute freedom in many parts of the world. As a result, wars are fed, not persons. In some cases, hunger itself is used as a weapon of war. The death count multiplies because the number of people dying of hunger and thirst is added to that of battlefield casualties and the civilian victims of conflicts and attacks." -- Meeting of executive board of World Food Program June 13, 2016 Lumen Christi Library Down the Main Hallway GROUNDED: FINDING GOD IN THE WORLD: A SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION by Diana Butler Bass. Where is God? God is here. How shall we act upon that? Well, that is up to us says Ms. Bass. She sees a pattern of God all around us. God IS the ground, that which grounds us right here and now, in nature and with others. The National Catholic Reporter said Provocative, and well researched. Grounded is an admirable contribution to the understanding of contemporary American Christianity, which is in constant need of reformation. c2015 Become an Altar Server Learn more about the Mass, help others and be part of a team!
