THE YEAR OF FAITH Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief! Mark 9:24 Teach me your ways, O LORD. Psalm 25:4 February 17 th was St. Bernard s annual Winter Carnival. February 22 nd was St. Bernard s first Fish Fry and March 22 nd is its second. March 1 st is Ascension s Fish Fry. Why have these events? I mean, it s a lot of work! MONEY as in raise money. It takes money to raise a family. Likewise, it takes money to raise up a Parish Family. Jesus commends, requires good stewardship as we see in Matthew 25. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more. His master said to him, Well done, my good and faithful servant. BUILD a stronger sense of COMMUNITY within our parishes. We are called to that communion with one another which we experience in the reception of the one Body of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. In St. Paul s words The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. 1 Corinthians 10:16,17 HOSPITALITY and EVANGELIZATION. Hospitality we are opening our parish and school to visitors to provide them with a good meal and a little relaxation and entertainment. Even though the context may be different, we are doing what Jesus commands: I was a stranger and you welcomed me I was hungry and you gave me something to eat (Matthew 25). Evangelization. I know, we re Catholics and we do not use this word. Well, let s check in with Jesus and see what he has to say. Go, therefore -and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you (Matthew 28). THANK YOU to all generous parishioners for working so hard to put on these events which are vital to who we are as a parish! I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you, praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you. Philippians 1:3, 4 Fr. Gregory ADVENTURES IN REVELATION 2013 Calendar Session 8 Revelation 16-18: Seven Bowls of Judgment and the Fall of Babylon Sunday, March 3, 2013 & Monday, March 4, 2013 Session 9 Revelation 19-20: The Marriage Supper and the Great Judgment Sunday, March 10, 2013 & Monday, March 11, 2013 CALENDAR FOR ASCENSION AND ST. BERNARDS PARISHES Feb. 18 Mar. 4th At. St. Bernard- Paper recycling and Metal Recycling. A paper trailer and a truck to recycle your appliances, toasters, pots and pans, wire, any type of metal. T,.V;s & Computer monitors can be brought however there is a fee of $5.00 each. Feb. 28-Thursday Adoration-8:00 am to 8:00 pm- Our prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is powerful. The world needs the whole Catholic and Christian community to acknowledge God and to pray for the needs of our nation, our government which has strayed from the moral law, for the welfare of the Church and for the whole world. The first Faith Speakers Series talk was on Feb. 7th and focused on the meaning of life. Fr. Peter Laird said that the meaning of life is happiness and what's important is finding it in God, not things, being better than others, or in living for others. If you wanted to hear the talk but were unable to come, there is an audio version of the speech available online at Rediscoverfaith.org. The 2nd speech was on Feb. 21st and focused on belonging and living in communion with God. The speech was given by Fr. Michael Keating.
