Pete and Duncan s FAITH STORY Summary Pete Hensel ~ Matthew 13:1-9 Pete shared his faith story with council. God worked in his life through very ordinary, simple ways to bring him to the point of professing his faith in Jesus as his saviour. God used a simple invitation to church, he used the daily discipline of a family reading God's Word and praying together, he used a church family that was accepting of him, all this to show him God's love and God's peace. He is excited to call the Christian Reformed church his faith's home. Duncan MacSorley ~ Jeremiah 29:11 Growing up, going to Church was something that was never a part of our family. Up until a couple of years ago I had never been exposed to any sort of belief or a church community whatsoever until I met Emily. It was clear right from the beginning that her and her family s faith was a strong and important part of their daily lives. It quickly became something that I was open to learning about right away, but it was something that I learned about in small steps. Not having any sort of background knowledge about Christianity, and very minimal knowledge about the Bible at the time made it tough to try and learn. There was an event in my life which afterwards made everything make a little more sense for me. It was a moment in my family s life and mine where you couldn t feel anything but terrified and helpless during the situation. However, in that moment the best thing I felt that I could do is pray, and that is when I felt closest to God. After this I realized that there is a difference between praying and praying with a purpose. It gave me a completely different outlook on life and made it clear that God has a plan for us all and without Him we would have nothing. In the time that I needed Him most, He was there. I am still continuing to learn a lot every day from reading, praying, and even the people that I surround myself with, and I feel like that is a major reason of why I want to do profession of faith at this point. I have come to really enjoy being a part of the church community and have felt welcomed ever since the day I first arrived with Emily. I feel that I have come a long way from where I started and in the future I could be a very helpful and contributing member of the church. Aging: Challenges and Opportunities - This training event will address the issues we face in the third third of our lives as individual believers, as well as the response of the Christian community. Speakers will help us think through faith life, our ability or inability to live independently, caring for aging parents, our interpersonal relationships, and changes in our mental health as we age. Disability Concerns sponsors this event at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodstock on April 21. For more information and to register see crcna.org/disability. Register a team from your church; three or more people can get the discount rate of $35. We have 2 people interested in attending from our church. If anyone else is interested please let Lucia know. Thank-You. 10 5
