The LORD is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens.

And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

Welcome to all! This week s focus: I will lift up my eyes to the hills - From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD. THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s worship service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. CONGREGATION: Amen! II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD OPENING HYMN: #17 [Red Hymnal] III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 2 KINGS 6:6-18 NKJV 8 Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, "My camp will be in such and such a place." 9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there." 10 Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. 11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?" 12 And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." 13 So he said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him." And it was told him, saying, "Surely he is in Dothan." 14 Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" 16 So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, "LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, "Strike this people, I pray, with blindness." And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ SINGING OF PSALM 121:1-4; 5-8 (AS FOLLOWS)

1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 2 KINGS 6:19-23 NKJV 19 Now Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." But he led them to Samaria. 20 So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, "LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see." And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were, inside Samaria! 21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, "My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?" 22 But he answered, "You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master." 23 Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ NICENE CREED The Nicene Creed was written to defend the Bible s teaching that the MAN Jesus Christ is not only true man, but also TRUE God. (Colossians 2:6-9) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. COMMUNION ANNOUNCMENT: (See also blue handout in entry tract rack) Holy Communion is rightly called a Sacrament because it is a Sacred act; not in what WE do for Christ, but in what Christ does for US! Because God s Word presents the reception of this Sacrament as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity (1 Corinthians 1:10; 10:16-17 Romans 16:17-18), we ask only those who have publicly professed such oneness of faith and belief with us by membership here or another CLC church come forward at this time. This is not a judgment of anyone s faith, but rather an expression of ours. Please speak with pastor if you are seeking a church home or have any questions. We d love to have you! IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 SPECIAL PRAYERS ~ GENERAL PRAYER V. OUR LORD BLESSES US CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION OF SINS P: Having heard the Word of God, let us confess our sins to Him. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: Upon this confession of your sins, I announce the grace and peace of God to all of you, and by the authority and command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. P: May the Lord be with you! C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts! C: We lift them up to the Lord. P: It is right and spiritually beneficial that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ our Lord: C: Who with Your only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit are one God, and one Lord. And in confession of the only true God we worship the Trinity in Person and the Unity in Substance, of Majesty coequal.

Thomas Schuetze, pastor of Faith Lutheran, Coloma MI, has accepted the call to St. Paul Lutheran, Lakewood CO. <> Grace Lutheran, Live Oak FL, has called the Rev. John M. Johannes, pastor of Mt. Olive/St. Paul Lutheran, Detroit Lakes/Ponsford MN. <> The Rev. Neal Radichel, pastor of Luther Memorial Lutheran, Fond du Lac WI, has returned the call to become the third pastor at Messiah Lutheran, Eau Claire WI. <> The Rev. Nathan Pfeiffer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran, Spokane WA, has returned the call to Zion Lutheran, Lawrenceville GA. September 28, 2014 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ of Luther Memorial, Over the last few weeks I have agonized in prayer to the Lord for direction over whether or not to accept the call to serve as 3rd pastor at Messiah, Eau Claire. The amount of work and challenges there are very exciting! However, the Lord has answered my prayers in examining this call. He has made me confident, that right now it is not the time to leave the growing work or the encouraging momentum here in Fond du Lac. So I have prayerfully and happily returned the call to serve in Eau Claire. That being said, I believe the Lord has reminded us and given us new zeal in knowing that

1. We have a lot to do! Our congregation continues to age and is being called by Christ from this earthly post. The younger generation must continue to step up and take over these challenges, while the older generation needs to respectfully allow them! Not in apathy or in resolving to say "I served my time," but by continuously serving Christ in humility, in giving encouragement, support, and in setting a godly example in all that is both done, and said! We need to set goals for both today and tomorrow, and work together with Jesus blessing to reach for them, confident He will lead and bless us! Where would YOU like to see our church and school in 5, 10, or another 50 years? How can you be a part of it, now? 2. We have a lot to learn! Our congregation does little for Bible study together. And few take advantage of what we do have. Could we all have a greater hunger and thirst for the one thing truly needful? Could our priorities show a greater urgency to follow as a disciple of Christ, verses following the pursuits of the world that so quickly rust and fade away? Faith life can so quickly and easily take the back seat. We are all tempted to think that "I'll go to God's house, or I ll serve or help out if nothing else comes up." It is easy to be so concerned with growing in numbers (as in being discouraged in how full or empty the church pews are), that it may be forgotten, more importantly, to grow in our faith to be both spiritually stronger and wiser in God's word. How will we be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us? Unless the Lord encourages us, how will we encourage those in our own congregation who are straying and dying in their faith? And finally, best of all 3. We have a lot of reasons to rejoice! Our congregation has continued to hold fast to the truth of God's word for the last 50 years and has rejoiced in the Gospel of Christ shared and encouraged among us! Through the ups and downs, THE LORD continues to keep our Christian Day school running to train young warriors for His service. THE LORD has provided us a tremendous opportunity to update and remodel His church and school here with long needed and extensive repairs. THE LORD has brought both new as well as familiar faces among us again recently to be satisfied with His waters of eternal life. What do we truly need, that the LORD doesn't provide when it is needed? So let us continue to look forward! I am very grateful for the 4 years we have been serving Christ our Savior with you here, and I have a renewed zeal to prayerfully strive together with you to serve Him even further! Affectionately yours and His, Pastor Neal Immanuel Lutheran College Visitors Day November 14th at 10:05 am in the ILC gymnasium for chapel.
