TUESDAY, September 12, 2017 OUR NEXT COUNCIL AND LADIES AUXILIARY MEETING, ROSARY 7:15 P.M., MEETING 7:30 P.M. R & R meeting will be the same day with lunch at noon. Retired? Come and join us. A word from our Grand Knight Brothers, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. - Galatians 6:9 (NIV) We, as a council, as a brotherhood, must persevere through our hardships and shortcomings. This is not first time that we encountered mishaps and adversities. We know that after the storm our goal is waiting for us. The joy and aid that we bring to our community, friends, and family awaits us on the other side of our difficult journey. Let us endure together on this path that GOD has set before us. Thank you all for your hard work, for we received the Columbian Award for the 2016-2017 year! Also, there are still plenty of seats available on the bus for the Knights of Columbus Pilgrimage on October 1st to Laurie, Missouri. You can call Ed Columbus at 816-58-8831, email him at edcolumbus@aol.com, or see the flyers in the lounge for more information. It will be a great and worthwhile time. Thank you all who attended last month's General Meeting and Happy Hour. I would like to see more of our membership at the hall to socialize and attend our meetings. What's a better way to form a brotherly bond than to see your face and interact over a few beverages? Our next General Meeting will be at the hall on September 12th beginning at 7:15pm with the Rosary. The next Happy Hour will be on September 15th starting around 5:30pm. I hope to see everyone and talk over a nice cold beverage. How goes writing that article for the newsletter? It doesn t have to be lengthy like mine, but a short paragraph will do. We will also begin an 'O'Hara Spotlight' where we post information and fun facts about several of our members. Look forward to an interview! Strengthening our fraternal bonds with each other is one of the key things that will build our council. With that being said Brothers, may the LORD protect you and guide you in this journey which is life. Regards, Joseph Orquiola Baleta, Grand Knight

September 5 September 12 September 12 September 14 September 17 September 21 UPCOMING EVENTS B.O.C. Meeting - 6pm, Officers - 7pm R & R Luncheon at 12 Noon Business & Ladies Auxiliary, Rosary 7:15 PM Thursday Family Dinner Community and Public Safety - Meet and Greet Happy Hour At 12:15 the rosary was led by Bill Aguirre. R & R Meeting August 8, 2017 Al Gebauer, Leo Hirner, Lou Stock prepared the meal. We had hotdogs with chili, salad and of course ice cream. The meeting started at 12:35 with a prayer. Bill Aguirre reminded the members of the upcoming pizza party. He advised the membership that he had contacted St. Thomas More, St. Catherine, and St. Matthew churches of the event and they will have the information on their weekend bulletins. The next upcoming event is the Oktoberfest. Leo Hirner stated that we have lost several of our cooks for the event, and asked for volunteers. No volunteers available. It was suggested that Bill Aguirre ask for volunteers from the general membership at the 7:30 meeting. If we are not able to get the necessary number of volunteers for the event, the event will have to be cancelled. The membership was invited to bring their families and friends to the Knights, COMMUNITY & PUBLIC SAFETY MEETIN & GREET, event on the property, on September 17 th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department, Kansas City Fire Department and the Kansas City Health Department will be there for the public to tour some of the equipment used by them and answer any questions that you may have. The meeting ended at 1:10 PM with a prayer ** Oktoberfest Dinner Update ** At the August 8 th R&R luncheon/meeting the membership expressed concern that not enough volunteers were available to host the Octoberfest dinner scheduled for October 28 th. It was suggested that President Bill Aguirre request volunteers at the general membership meeting that evening. The request for additional volunteers was made at the meeting; however, there were still not enough volunteers available to meet the needs for the dinner. Since there are not enough volunteers to adequately work the dinner, Bill Aguirre informed the Council that the Octoberfest dinner would be cancelled for the 2017 year. Keep praying for Our Seminarians. Seminarian Mr. Jared Samson s birthday is on September 17, 2017 and here is his address if anyone would like to send him a birthday card. Bishop O'Hara Corporation In August the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts had a fundraiser at the hall to raise money for their float trip. They also gave a contribution to the BOC capital improvements fund for the use of the hall. A big THANK YOU to the Scouts for this contribution. Cost of each card is $20.00 (1/2 - $10.00 is retained, Sales will start the 1 st Sunday of August at St Catherine s. (All Three Masses), ending the first Sunday of the Season starts. Volunteer sellers will be appreciated. Ivo Feuerborn Assisted by Bill Aguirre 816-761-3933 816-966-0427 Call for Information From The Desk of Joe Mouton I want to personally thank all who to date have participated in the $500 matching individual donations to the Capitol Improvement Fund. The challenge is in effect through the end of September 2017. Therefore, if you have not already contributed to the fund, please consider making a donation inasmuch as your individual circumstances will permit. This worthy cause is not only to maintain our Council Home (building/parking lot, etc.) but to also fund needed and planned upgrades. Our 2017 rentals are down approximately 35% from 2016 rentals. This equates to an approximate annual loss of $8,000 plus in rental income. A contributing factor is our inability to recruit monitors for rental events. For that reason, we no longer book back to back rentals i.e. Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday rentals. Currently, at most there are only 9 members available to monitor rental events. These same 9 individuals are also assigned to do Saturday morning Open House along with others assigned to this task. Limited availability for event monitors is attributed to physical/medical conditions and demanding personal obligations of active members. Many thanks to those who have given of their time and energy to monitor events.

Charity Committee Report Review of Our Good Work Hey Knights of Columbus members,.1k athletes, and friends, etc. YEAH YOU!! We would like to take this moment to say thank you very much for your support and participation throughout the year! Just in case you didn't know. In 2016, we collected donations by preparing food for several happy hours, helped out with mouse races and held our 1st Annual Wine Tasting resulting in a $500.00 check from the Knights and an additional $160.00 collected on race day for KC Hospice. In 2017, I'm happy to report was even better!! On Aug 13 after several happy hours, charity fund donations and the 2nd Annual Wine Tasting, Tom and I proudly presented a check for $750.00 on behalf of O Hara Council to KC Hospice during the.1k Run at Patrick's Bar and No Grill as well $300.00 in cash we collected in the parking lot totaling $1050.00. This year Patrick's raised $27,000 for KC Hospice and I'm proud that our efforts represent a huge contribution from such a small group. Can t wait to start raising more funds for next year!! Esther Heng & Tom Freund, Jr. Happy Hour Cooks / Mouse Race Tellers / Winos Special thanks to the Knights for their generosity. Thanks to everyone who came to the Wine Tasting, including those who bought tickets and gave them away. Thanks to CVS Pharmacy for once again, allowing us to borrow wine tasting tables. A huge round of thanks to Laura and Larry Brenneman, for donating fun wine swag for the auction. None of this would be possible without the food items procured by Keith Gregory. Tom Freund because without you, I don't know which way is up and couldn't possibly do any of this!!! Every year someone I know from work, friends, or family (myself included) has either been touched by or knows someone who has been touched by the many kindnesses that these amazing people at KC Hospice provide. Heaven sent for sure!! Charity Committee Report We will be distributing around $2000 at the October General Business Meeting on October 10, 2017. Please let me know the name of any non-profit organization you would like the committee to consider. Please email me at tfreund816@gmail.com (preferred method) or leave a message to (816) 761-8063. The committee will present a motion for distribution at the October meeting. Thanks for any input. Tom Freund, Jr.

TOOTSIE ROLL TIME Next month is our time to shine once again. Our council has a long history of supporting Persons with Developmental Disabilities through our annual Tootsie Roll Drive, along with other fundraiser events. For the past several years, we have raised $6,000.00 in support of the Cardinal Glennon Hospital, in St Louis and our local St. Catherine s SPRED Group. When the public sees our yellow vested Knights and families each October, they are familiar with our charitable program and are eager to help. Now I am asking for your help, for several reasons, our volunteers for this program has been dwindling. Please remember that the first principle our Order is Charity. Your help, in any manor, is needed to continue this endeavor. Monetary donations made out to KofC-PDD are encouraged as well. There will be Sign-Up Sheets this month and next, at the Council Hall for members and families to support. Please consider a 2 Hour donation of your time in October at one of Our 2 Walmart Locations. There will also be a Boot Block and Kick Off Dinner where you can lend support and/or personal checks. See next month s newsletter about the dinner menu on 12 October. Your support for the PDD Program is greatly appreciated. Mike Hartig Schedule October 7 October 12 October 13-14-15 October 20-21-22 Boot Block @ Blueridge over I-49 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Kick Off Dinner @ Council Hall Doors Open @ 5:30 p.m. / Dinner @ 6:00 7:30 p.m. See October Newsletter for Details Raymore Walmart 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Lee s Summit Walmart 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sign-up sheets will be at the Sept. meeting for the annual tootsie roll drive. I will be Oct 13-15 at the Belton Walmart and Oct 20-22 at the new Lee's Summit Walmart. Please help to make this successful. Call John Ewigman at 816-763-5611 for questions or to sign up over the phone. Thank you.
