MEDICAL MISSION TRIP: As most of you are aware I am traveling to Haiti in a few weeks for a 2 1/2-month medical mission. During my time in Haiti I plan on helping with clinics in rural mountainous areas. I will be part of a team who will initiate a hypertensive protocol in a community and do follow ups every 3 weeks. I will also be focusing on a relationship with the Haitian nursing school, finding out what they need education wise, how they run their program and brining that information back to Sarnia with hopes of collaborating with Lambton college nursing program. I will also focus a lot on health teaching to communities in and around Cap Haitian. I want to thank my church family for supporting my dream and ask for continued prayers during my stay. I know this is a part of Gods plan for me and I am very excited to see it unfold. I am interested in leading a group of people on a trip through the Biblical lands. There are 2 different sorts of trips. The first is in March 2017. I am leading this trip with my Dad. This trip is in Israel, seeing all the major sites and is a wonderful opportunity for growth. It is open and accessible for all people. The second opportunity is for the winter of 2018 and this would be a trip through Egypt, Jordan and Israel with George DeYoung. This trip is similar to the one that April and I went on and is at times physically demanding, it is for a full 2 weeks, and is more expensive. If anyone is interested in either one of these two trips, or wants more information, please email me or sign up on the sheet outside the office. Signing up is not a commitment, just a gauge of interest. I am setting up an orientation with George DeJong Thursday, November 10 in the Kitchener area for all those who might want to ask him questions about what the trip would entail. I think that this is an exciting opportunity so please let me know soon if you are interested! 8 5

CLASSIS CHATHAM HIGHLIGHTS Thursday, September 29, 2016 hosted by Aylmer CRC Rev. Dirk Miedema of the host church welcomed all delegates and led in a time of worship and devotions. Classis Prayer Coordinator, Rev. John VanTil led in a prayer session encouraging all present to break into small groups and pray in connection with Thanksgiving. 25 of the 27churches of Classis were present, including 55 delegates and 11 first-time delegates. The latter all signed the Covenant for Office Bearers. Regrettably, two churches were not able to attend due to a last minute change of date, which also affected several speakers to classis. Classis was declared constituted and Rev. William Koopmans of Chatham-Grace and Rev. John Moelker of Dresden were seated as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively. Mr. Ron Middel was seated as the Clerk. Classis approved that the current mandate of our classical Home Missions Committee be shelved for a time, and that we start a fresh, purpose-oriented Home Missions Committee and solicit new members with a vision and passion for church planting. The Nominations Committee invites recommendations for those who have a passion for home missions and church planting. You are encouraged to solicit volunteers of those who may wish to serve classis on the church planting task force. Please contact the Stated Clerk. Mr. Harry Verburg presented the results of a recent survey regarding the Classical Youth Ministry. He reported that 58% of churches in the classis participated in the survey and the Ad-hoc Committee has made a number of recommendations to our Classical Youth Team and for our Youth Coordinator. The Functionaries and Committees Schedule was received and reviewed. Classis approved to nominate Rev. William Koopmans (Chatham-Grace) as a nominee for the Calvin Theological Seminary Board. Classis also approved to appoint Rev. Josh Tuininga as Church Visitor for West-Team 3. Rev. Tuininga will seek an elder to partner with him. Classis approved the 2017 Budget as presented by our Treasurer, Mr. Harry Verburg. 2017 budget is $64.88 per professing member, a decrease of 9% from 2016. An overture from Woodstock-Covenant was received. This overture was reviewed by an advisory committee consisting of representatives from London-Bethel and London-Good News. Following discussion classis approved to amend Section VIII of the Rules of Classis to say, A church that is served by an interim pastor who is an ordained minister of the Word will not be entitled to Classical Pulpit Supply. Churches that have a ministerial vacancy, but are served by an non-ordained interim pastor, will receive one classical appointment per month. Classis was blessed to hear that Rev. Harold Winter of Fredericton, NB has accepted the call of Tillsonburg CRC to be their new pastor. The installation of Rev. Winter is being planned for November 25 th. All are welcome! Classis approved to change the date of our winter session to Saturday, February 4, 2017 at London-Talbot Street Church. At the request of Strathroy-Westmount, classis directed the Classical Ministries Committee 6 to arrange for a presentation at an upcoming meeting of classis on corporate governance and compliance issues for non-profit organization such as our churches. Classis was blessed with a variety of other speakers and reports. Classis adjourned at 12:03 p.m. to meet again at London-Talbot Street Church on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., DV. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Christian Stewardship Services Making a Will: Approximately 50% of Canadians do not have an up-to-date Will that truly reflects their wishes. Might that include you? Making a Will - and then reviewing it every 5-10 years is more crucial than most realize. In procrastinating on these important steps, many people unfortunately underestimate the challenges they leave behind for their families. Christian Stewardship Services, as a partner charity of the CRC, provides free Will/estate planning services. CSS consultant Rob Vandebelt will in your area in October/November. To schedule a personal consultation with Rob, please call 1-800-267-8890 x 250 or email robv@csservices.ca Hurricane Matthew Response in Haiti: World Renew is responding to heavy destruction from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti on October 4, 2016, after heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides destroyed homes and killed seven people in all. Please give generously to help Haitians affected by Hurricane Matthew at worldrenew.net/donate or call 800-730-3490 to give by credit card.
