MARQUETTE ASSEMBLY #1197 March 2018 Faithful Friar: Father Daniel Schuster Rev. Daniel J. Schuster Praying with the Pope s Universal Monthly Intention Each month Pope Francis publishes a prayer intention that he presents to the world. For March 2018, we are invited to pray that the Church may appreciate the urgency of formation in spiritual discernment, both on the personal and communitarian levels. Let us as brother Knights obediently offer this prayer throughout the month of March. Praying for discernment is essential in leading each of us into the Truth so that we may make wise decisions. Discernment literally means pray fully cutting away all the voices that are not the Holy Spirit, and thus choosing the Truth. Discernment is not a word that is limited to the vocation realm. It is a word for every disciple. Some of the aids to discernment are the Sacred Scriptures, the teachings and the Tradition of the Church, natural law, and our own sound experiences of grace. We cannot live peacefully in a world where we each have our own truth that is not founded on the above influences. Yet at the level of a well formed and prayerful conscience, the Truth is spoken and affirmed in each of us. Our pope is confident that if real discernment were happening on every level, from the individual level to the world level, that we would come to know Jesus Christ and be saved. As we pray this monthly intention, I wonder how each knight discerns even the little decisions. When someone makes a proposal at a Knights meeting, is it merely a bunch of individuals arguing for oragainst the proposal based on their own feelings, or is it a room full of discerning men who make the decision? If it is the latter, then the Holy Spirit is involved. Sometimes we need to dig deep in order to
set aside our own preferences and listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd. Let us remember to invite the Holy Spirit into our discernments and our decisions. Faithful Navigator Notes Faithful Navigator Bob Reich & Lady Jean The Valentine Social was an outstanding event. We enjoyed a good meal and we had a good deal of fun to boot. From decorations, games and flowers, Terry Klingbeil was the special valentine for all of us. That Rod is one lucky fellow. We ll do this again next year, thanks to Terry and Rodney. This is a repeat from last month. So far the response has been disappointing. With an Exemplification coming up on Saturday, April 7 in Fond du Lac we all need to get cracking. This is close by and convenient. We reviewed the schedule for the rest of 2018 and most events are locked in. The Marquette Assembly is responsible for the Officer Installation. That includes the date and time, Mass location and social to follow the installation, sometime in July or August. Keep your calendar clear for August 18. There will be a Mass installing the new KofC State Deputy. I am sure that the Honor Guard will be in play on that day. The HG Certification was conducted as planned. Thanks to SK Gary Janssen for the setup at St. Agnes Parish. If you know of some Assembly member or family member who are sick and in distress, please let me know with a call or email.
