OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Merry Christmas!!! Yes, we continue our celebration of Christmas this week, too, with the feast of the Epiphany. In some places (Rome being one), they maintain this feast on January 6 th, the 12 th day of Christmas. Here in the United States, it is transferred to the second Sunday after Christmas. This feast marks the coming of the wise men, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, demonstrating Christ as King, priest, and sacrifice. It also marks His baptism in the Jordan by the Baptism, when Jesus is revealed as God s Son. By tradition, too it celebrates His first miracle of the changing of water to wine at the wedding feast at Cana. One little tradition that can be done on this day is chalking our doors asking God s blessing upon all who enter or exit our homes for the year. I will post this on our Facebook page. Our sympathy to Police Chief Mattew Peters on the death of his father. May he rest in peace. This week, let s reflect on the corporal work of mercy clothing the naked. We can participate in clothing drives and donating good, unused clothes to the Thrift Store. We might consider helping organizations that are helping those without employment find decent clothing for their interviews. We might also expand this out to extending dignity to those who live in fear and shame. In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Petersen ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE January 3 January 10, 2016 The Epiphany of the Lord, January 3, 2016 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass (+Albert & Elenora Thuer), St. Peter No Faith Formation 11AM Coffee & Donuts, Social Hall Monday 8 AM Mass (+Henry & Michael Kirchner), Chapel School Resumes 9 AM Bible Study, Family Room Tuesday 11:30 AM +Kim Olson Funeral Mass, St. Peter 3 PM School Choir, Band room Wednesday 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 8:15 School Prayer, Church 10:30 Mass, Benedictine (+ Lois Pettis) No Faith Formation 6:30 Sanctuary Choir, Band room Thursday 9:30 AM School Mass, (+ Bob & Nathan Bruns) 1-10 PM Eucharistic Adoration, Chapel 3:30 PM Confessions, Chapel 6:30 PM RCIA, Family Room Friday 8 AM Mass (+Jim Klein), Chapel 10:30 AM Mass (+Kathy Schaus), Prairie Hill Early Release KC Christmas Party Saturday 9 AM 3 PM Disciple Training w/don Ralph, MPR 4 PM Mass (+Parish Family), St. Peter The Baptism of the Lord, January 10 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass (+Bernie Depuydt), St. Peter 10 AM, Preschool Grade 1, Faith Formation 11AM Coffee & Donuts, Social Hall 11 AM Holy Family Icon Prayer Service, Chapel

This year we are alternating with looking at the Sunday Scriptures one week and going through the Bible Study, Mary, Jesus mother and ours. Here is the opening paragraph of the book. After centuries of employing patriarchs, prophets, kings, and sages in his saving plan for humanity, God reached the point in which he needed an extraordinary humble and reliable person to carry out his crucial mission. For this task he chose someone who in today s world, might not be old enough to get a driver s permit and certainly would not be allowed to travel to World Youth without a chaperone. We are talking, of course, of Mary of Nazareth. We invite anyone who is interested to come, check out if this is what you might be interested in. Everyone is welcome! Dear Folks, As I retire from my position at the Church of St. Peter after some 30 years on the job, I leave with a lifetime of memories. My family and I moved to St. Peter in 1984. I was fortunate enough to begin work at St. Mary s in 1985 a couple days a week, adding more time and duties at St. Peter s as the years went by. Over the years I ve come to recognize many of you as friends and acquaintances. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity that I was blessed with to serve you in so many ways and I want to thank you for any ways you made my job easier and more rewarding. I also want to thank you for your retirement cards, wishes, and gifts My plans include staying here in St. Peter, volunteering at the Thrift Store and Church, and of course, more time with my wonderful family.
