PROGRAM Open_Pre-Service Open_Spirit Move_MusicVideo Start timer 1 minute before service Open_1 Minute Countdown_Video Host Hello and welcome to the Way Station! Just like some of the great rides in Disney, we have some rules we need to follow. So sit tight and check this out! Open_Rules_Video Now the fun can begin! Take a moment and look around. We have traveled back in time to a place with some yummy food. Can anyone guess where we are? (Pause for response) Yup! Welcome to the Way Station diner! Now what s so special about a diner? (Pause for response) Diners usually have some yummy milkshakes, greasy burgers, and pancakes. But what we re going to focus on is what any good restaurant should have - good service. Does anyone know what service means? (Pause for response) Let s check out the meaning together. Open_Service_Slide Service means lending a hand to help someone else. Have any of you ever-experienced BAD service? (Allow a few kids to share stories, and if they don t have any, then share your own story) Now, have any of you ever-experienced GREAT service? (Allow a few kids to share stories, and if they don t have any, then share your own story) One of the big differences between good service and bad service is usually the way the person shows they care - they either do, or they don t. Open_Game Open_Game Time_Slide That s our game time music! For today s game, everyone can play! This game is called Order Up. An important part of being a good server at a restaurant is remembering all those orders. So here s how we play. We re going to divide you up into teams of two (Larger campuses can do four). You will line up side-by-side with your team members.

I m going to whisper an order to the person on one end of the line. You will then have to whisper the order to the person next to you, and so on and so forth, until the order gets to the last person in the line. The last person will then say the order out loud. Whichever team is close to the original order will be the winner! Let s play! This game is a take on the game Telephone. Host chooses two orders from the order cards and whispers a different one to each team. Award prize to team that got the order the closest to the original. Open_Order Up_Slide w/music Open_Lesson That was so much fun! Did you think that memorizing the order was going to be difficult? (Pause for response) Now, we have been talking about good service at a restaurant, but let s talk about service that we can ALL do every day. And to find that answer, we re going to the Bible. In order to understand our Bible story today, let s look at feet! Yup, I said feet! Open_Feet 1_Slide Open_Feet 2_Slide Open_Feet 3_Slide What do these feet have in common? (Pause for response) Yes, they re all dirty! Okay, let s remove those slides, the feet are getting to me Now, with feet in mind, let me set the scene for our story. Jesus and the disciples were going to celebrate Passover together. As Jesus and the rest of the disciples arrived, they were probably very tired from walking such a long way. Now, let me explain something about the way people ate a meal back then. They didn t sit in chairs at a table like we do today. They sat on cushions and lounged around a low table kind of like this. Host sits down on the floor with feet off to the side. So you could be eating your food with your friend s feet right in your face! That s pretty gross, right? But wait! There s more. Let s rewind this situation just a bit. As Jesus and His friends were traveling to this Passover feast, they would have been wearing thin sandals... or maybe no shoes at all. And they would have been walking on dirt roads that were VERY dirty. They would have been close to some sandy deserts too, so they

probably would have walked through some sand. And, you know, back then there were lots of animals walking around on the streets, and those animals didn t really have bathrooms to use so yeah. By the time Jesus and His disciples arrived at the Passover meal, their feet weren t just dirty. They were DIRTY and GROSS! Now that you re in the scene, check this out: Open_Wk1 Bible Story_Video Jesus came to earth to serve OTHER people! Let me say that again Jesus came to earth to serve OTHER people! Jesus is God s Son! He was there from the very beginning when creation was made. He is HOLY, MIGHTY, and STRONG. Jesus is so powerful that He rose from the dead! So why would Jesus, the Son of God, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, come to serve others? It makes no sense! That brings us to our bottom line for today Open_Wk 1_Bottom Line_Slide Say it with me Serve others because of what Jesus did for us. Jesus washed His friends feet for an important reason. He was showing them how to serve others and put them first. He wanted the disciples to understand that they shouldn t be competing with each other to be first. They shouldn t be fighting over who was more important. Instead, Jesus wanted them to understand that they should follow His example and choose to serve. When we think about what Jesus did for us, it makes us want to show love to other people too. It makes us want to lend a hand and serve. Let s pray and ask God to help us serve the people around us. Host chooses a kid to lead prayer Open_Worship I am so excited to sing with all of you today. When we serve the people around us, it s like we re shining a bright light for all to see when we keep our hearts and minds focused on Jesus. Let s have fun and sing this together. Open_My Life_Worship Video Open_Eyes on You_Worship Video Open_Offering_Slide Amazing time of worship! Now, let s talk about the offering. Why is it such a big deal, and why do we always talk about it? Check this out.

Open_Offering_Video Open_Offering_Slide If anyone has an offering, please place it in (indicate area). Open_Announcements Open_Upcoming_Slide Now there are quite a few announcements, so sit tight.
