December 2015 Newsletter Knights of Columbus Council 8909 St. Francis of Assisi Church, Castle Rock, CO 80104 Grand Knight s Corner by Cal Weatherly Brother Knights, This month has been a slower month for volunteer activities as we wind down towards Thanksgiving and Christmas. This allows us to relax and reflect on the meaning of the season, and how we can bring ourselves and our families closer together and closer to God. A few Knights volunteered at the Annual Breakfast with Santa Event and Craft Fair/Fundraiser for the Teen Youth Mission to Utah in Spring 2016. While not a specifically supported Knights event, thank you to those who did volunteer with their teens. Also in November we had the honor of visits by District Deputy John Lynn, and State Deputy Jim Caffrey. Among other business they attended the November Council Meeting to present Doug Wilson with the prestigious Shining Knight Award. This voluntary program honors First Degree Members who have: - Attended at least three council meetings - Volunteers to work on at least three Council projects - Receives his 2 nd and 3 rd degrees - Meets with the council field representative - Recruits on new member As you can see it is a full commitment for new members to achieve a Shining Knight Award, so congratulations Doug on earning this honor, and for representing our Council well in your first year! Lastly, I wish you all a very Merry and Blessed Christmas season. Thank you for all of your hard work and for being true men of faith, and I look forward to seeing you all again in 2016! Vivat Jesus! Fish Fry Update Lecturer s Section Earlier this year an exhaustive search for an adequate facility to host our annual fish fry was conducted. With the help of many brothers, we contacted multiple locations, however we were unable to find a facility that met our specific needs in the desired timelines. We will continue the search for a location, and if a suitable location is found we will notify the council and community as soon as one is located. if there are locations that brother Knights think of, please contact the council officers. Remember Dom Cingoranelli s report from the book The Gospel of Happiness? The message of the health and spiritual benefits of gratitude, positive psychology and the Christian practice is always relevant and even more so in this season of giving thanks to others and gratitude toward God. If you d like to read more on this subject, here is the book cover image in case you want to go get a version for yourself. In the mean-time, the fish fry for Spring of 2016 has been cancelled until further notice. Page 3

State Deputy Address The State Deputy addressed the Council on changes to the operation of K of C Councils being called for by Supreme. The basic thrust of the change is to work all activities through the Parishes rather than the Knights acting as an outside organization. Lecturer Dom Cingoranelli addressed us on the message from a book, Gospel of Happiness. A chapter of the book deals with the Way of Gratitude and the many benefits of expressing gratitude in your life. This is a fitting subject, as we are in the season of Thanksgiving.
