We must never forget the moments we have had during our years as DeMolays, from athletic events to blast weekends, lock-ins, installations, chapter meetings, dances, leadership camps, and other events. We gain experiences that build friendships that last a lifetime, while learning great lessons that will undoubtedly aid us in the future. I hope there are many great lessons that each of you has learned during my year as SCJ Master Councilor, but if nothing else, I hope each of you has experienced a moment in DeMolay this year that you will never forget. Brian James SCJ DEPUTY MASTER COUNCILOR We have had a fantastic year and with all of the improvements that we have made this jurisdiction is heading to a brighter future. Southern California has been doing outstanding in membership and our participation at events has been spectacular. If we keep going strong as we are, we will be looking at a bigger and better jurisdiction in the future. I would like to thank all of the people who have helped this year. Your help has been invaluable to the jurisdiction and I hope that you all continue in your efforts to make the jurisdiction strong. Tony Fernandez SCJ SWEETHEART Hello SCJ! I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer. As the year winds down let us not forget about the many exciting events from the past, present or future. I love Sweethearts Balls. For the vast majority of us they are all no work and all play. I would like to thank everyone that helped with this year s SCJ Sweethearts Ball for the hard work they put into it. Also, please don t forget about Flower Sales this year at Conclave. Speaking of Thank You s, the Flower Sales would be a great way to thank someone who has done a lot for you this past year. Come visit with the Sweethearts during Conclave, or find our table and we will gladly help you out. I had a fantastic time so far this year, and can t wait to see all of you again soon! Natalie James SCJ Sweetheart

Page 2 District Discussion August 2006 ICD A fanatic is a person who can t change his mind and won t change the subject Winston Churchill To My Brothers of SCJ: This year has been yet another amazing year. In ICD, this year, we had tons of fun. We increased our membership and strengthened the brotherhood between the DeMolays. We introduced new events such as Dodge Ball, Make Your Own Pizza Movie Night, Volleyball, and two Car Rally s, which were all huge successes. The Jurisdictional officers have all done a fantastic job and we are all lucky to have them. I would like to thank everyone for supporting me throughout the year because my job would have been a lot harder without you and I look forward to seeing everyone at Conclave! Fraternally, Matthew Pinzon ICD President 05-06 SCJ!!! This year has been tons of FUN and I wouldn t have wanted to share it with any other Jurisdiction! I won t forget all the new friends I made and all the memories I have to share with them. I hope to see everyone at CONCLAVE 2006, it will be a BLAST! I hope everyone is looking forward to the new term. Congratulations to all the incoming officers, and a thank you to those who are coming to the end of their term. You have made this year a memorable one! I Love all of you, and can t wait to see all of you as soon as possible. Have an awesome summer, stay safe, and don t take the rest of the term for granted : )!!! I ll be seeing you! XOXO, Jessica Stibich ICD Sweetheart 05-06 Hey Everyone, IED The difference between reality and fiction? Fiction has to make sense. Tom Clancy Alas, we are at the end of another wonderful year. Conclave is just around the corner and I hope to see all of you there. It s been an awesome ride with many new experiences and friends. We have had many great events, of which our officers have worked and sacrificed much in order to have them. We just had our notorious camp I.E., which was totally trip n dicular. Our honors night is coming up where we are able to give honors were honors are due. I hope to see you guys at the rest of the great events we have in store. The golden god and IED President, Sean Fertig Hello there SCJ! There is no doubt about it, this year has been a blast. I ve truly enjoyed meeting so many DeMolay s that are passionate about their order, and not to mention the tons of proud supporters along the way. Whether it s been a lock-in, an Installation, or regular chapter meeting the enthusiasm you all brought with you has been nothing more than contagious! You rock! As a sweetheart and one of many proud supporters of DeMolay, I would like to thank the many young men of this order for not only making this year a blast, but also a success. Whatever you do though don t lose your sprit now because Conclave is just around the corner; and I don t know about you but I think I m coming down with the Disco Fever...see you there! All-star Shine and hugs, Ashley Dotter Inland Empire District Sweetheart 05-06

The Preceptor Page 3 Hey SCJ!!! Oasis The most happy marriage I can picture or imagine to myself is a deaf man married to a blind woman. Samuel Taylor Coleridge The term is coming to an end and conclave is very close. I hope that everyone had a fun year in Oasis because I know that I did. I just would like to congratulate the people who received awards at Oasis Honors Night on July 15th. It has been a great to serve you all as Oasis DeMolay District President for the year 05-06. I hope many of you learned form me and take that into not only your DeMolay future but your future in general. The only big event left as far as the district is the district elections on August 27th. Jeremy is the only person running for Oasis District President so wish him luck!!!. Thanks for supporting Oasis and see you guys around!!!! HAVE A BLAST!!!!! Matt Terzian Oasis District President SPD Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." Rich Cook Brethren, Well the year is closing fast, and we can definitely say that it has been one of the best. We have had tons of well planned and fun events and I know that Conclave this year is going to be a blast. As for SPD we only have one more event to finish off the year, our district elections and lazar tag. This year it is going to be at the Ultra Zone Lazar Tag in San Diego on August 12 Th, at 11:00 pm. If you have any question or would like more information on it do not hesitate to give me a call. Well also with the end of the year, of course is campaigning and District and Jurisdiction elections. Well this year, like always we have some very qualified people running for positions. I know that whoever is elected will be able to keep this Jurisdiction strong and lead us to being the best in all of international. However, we do need to remember that we as members of this great Order are the ones who choose who is elected. So, with that being sad I am going to again remind all of you that, the person you choose should be the one most qualified. Even if you best friend is running he or she may not be the best choice. So make sure to go out and talk to all of your candidates this year, get to know them and there plans, ideas and most important of all whether or not they will be able to get the job done. So, I look forward to seeing all of you in the closing of this year, I wish the best of luck to all the soon to be elected officials, and to the delegates electing them, make the right choice, vote for the good of the Order not for the popularity. and most important of all...one final time SOUTHWEST!!!!!!!!! Brandon has been eagerly awaiting this day for almost 4 years. Six members, including one for Orange Chapter and two for the soon to be open Saddleback Chapter, were initiated. Approximately 100 people were in attendance for the Degree, Including seven ISC members (one of which is a Past Grand Master), two Past SCJ Master Councilors, and many from the SCJ and ICD advisory staffs. Outstanding ritual work was performed by the members of Walt Disney Chapter and the several members from other chapters that helped to complete a full crops of officers. The new members and there parents were very impressed with the ceremonies. Walt Disney also congratulated Brian James on his recent election as Region VIII Coordinator for DeMolay International. Brian continues to be a shinning light not only for Walt Disney Chapter, but for all the chapter in Southern California. SCJ Dad Jamie Barr was congratulated for his selection as a Deputy Member of DeMolay International. Dad Merritt Read

The word on everyone s mind is Conclave. The shining event of the year, where the members of this Jurisdiction gather to take care of the business of this great organization, elect its representatives, install the backbone officers of the Districts, and of course, have a huge amount of fun doing it! We have found a little bit of our pride this year and started showing the world a little glimpse of what Southern California can really do. I know that what we have seen is just the beginning. It is obvious that the members of SCJ have decided that hard work, travel, solid ritual, and the helping hand of assistance strengthen the brotherhood that has begun to shine here in SCJ. This is all thanks to you! Continue to participate and help wherever you can. Travel to see your brothers from other chapters and assist them in their degrees. Make your chapters the best they can be with exciting events and interesting activities. Do everything that DeMolay teaches you to do, and DeMolay will succeed but more importantly, so will you. Get those Conclave forms and your $50 deposit into the Jurisdiction office as soon as possible to reserve your spot. Remember, August 5 th is the absolute deadline. No extensions will be given so get those forms in now. The more of us there are the more fun we will all have! Dad Barr

Page 6 August 2006 EXECUTIVE OFFICER FROM THE E.O. IT S GOING GREAT!! For most of this fiscal year, SCJ has lead the world in membership recruitment. We are currently (July 18 th ) ahead of Texas 104 to 99. The really important issue is that if we keep up this pace, not only will we lead the world, but we will achieve positive growth for 2006! You guys are the ones doing this, and deserve all of the credit. Let s keep up the drive through the Membership Class in August, and finish out the year with a focused, intense effort to put a pie (or 4) in my face. Keep in mind that all of these new members have brothers, cousins, or friends from school. I would also like to touch briefly on chapter activities. How many of you invite the Rainbows and Jobs to all of your functions and activities? There has been some resurgence of the old Jo-De-Rai activities, which has the potential for bringing the three Orders closer together and improving our activities and recruitment efforts. Lastly I would like to remind everyone that this year s Recognition Program ends at Conclave, but thereafter will run from August 31 st to September 1 st. So for next year you will have almost 12 full months to qualify for different levels of recognition. The requirements might be a little steeper??! What do you think? How should I run next year s program? What sort of recognition awards would you like to see? Let me know Fraternally Dad Jeanson

Membership Goal Update Every chapter has been given a membership quota for the current year (9/05/05 9/01/06). Membership stats are based on Form 10s received by DeMolay International.
