Another wonderful opportunity to volunteer is for Feed My Starving Children on Saturday September 9th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm to pack food boxes for children without food. This will be in Schaumburg at: Feed My Starving Children at 1072 National Parkway, Schaumburg, Illinois 60173. What a great way to help a child in need! Please contact either Bob Gedmin rjgedmin@wowway.com, or Tom Reed at golfcraze1@hotmail.com or 630-329-3508. Your help is greatly appreciated. A quote from brother Phil Kruger is "If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot. Another quote that is my favorite is from President John F. Kennedy." Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". I would like to change a few words to say Ask not what your council can do for you, but what you can do for your council. So, come out and volunteer to help all those with intellectual disabilities and make your day brighter. Thank You For All Your Help! May God Bless You and Your Families, Thomas W. Reed Grand Knight P.S. The September Sword & Baldric Meeting has been moved to Tuesday, September 12th at. P.S.S. Chaplain s Report When I think about the month of August I think about St. Augustine. Augustine is known as a Doctor of the Church. His writings have inspired and touched many individuals spiritually, myself included. Below is a brief except from Catholics On-Line about his life and conversion. This famous son of St. Monica was born in Africa and spent many years of his life in wicked living and in false beliefs. Though he was one of the most intelligent men who ever lived and though he had been brought up a Christian, his sins of impurity and his pride darkened his mind so much, that he could not see or understand the Divine Truth anymore. Through the prayers of his holy mother and the marvelous preaching of St. Ambrose, Augustine finally became convinced that Christianity was the one true religion. Yet he did not become a Christian then, because he thought he could never live a pure life. One day, however, he heard about two men who had suddenly been converted on reading the life of St. Antony, and he felt terribly ashamed of himself. "What are we doing?" he cried to his friend Alipius. "Unlearned people are taking Heaven by force, while we, with all our knowledge, are so cowardly that we keep rolling around in the mud of our sins!" Full of bitter sorrow, Augustine flung himself out into the garden and cried out to God, "How long more, O Lord? Why does not this hour put an end to my sins?" Just then he heard a child singing, "Take up and read!" Thinking that God intended him to hear those words, he picked up the book of the Letters of St. Paul, and read the first passage his gaze fell on. It was just what Augustine needed, for in it, St. Paul says to put away all impurity and to live in imitation of Jesus. That did it! From then on, Augustine began a new life. St. Augustine s life gives hope to us all. May we honor his memory and live our lives in closer communion with God our Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit. Peace and blessings for a safe and happy summer. Deacon Joseph Yannotta Gentlemen: Building Corporation We are at a critical time for the life and future of the Hall. As the Director of Marketing for the Building Corp, I am asking each and everyone of us to take an active role to insure the future of the Hall. Most of our renters are Social Media savvy. They do research before booking a hall for their event. What is critical is that we, as members all of the Building Corp, help our ongoing efforts to "spread the word" of the renovation and our great facility. The easiest and best way to do this is via Facebook. If you are not familiar with Facebook or seem challenged as to how to use it to our benefit, we will be conducting an upcoming seminar to walk through the steps and get you on board. It is easy and it's help is quite necessary for the sustainability of the Hall. Stay tuned for more and thanks. Mark Stastny and the BC Officers...
