Brothers, CROSS AND COMPASS A Publication of the Knights of Columbus Council 9924 Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Venice, Florida April, 2018 Grand Knights Message I m wondering if the annual northern flow of snowbirds will launch on April 2 or not. Easter is early this year, and the blizzards won t let up..why leave Florida? We have the pleasure of welcoming several new brothers! Transfers Sam Mattoni, Chris Clair, Jim Schuchart, Richard Michalak, William Tarr, Michael Daves, Joseph Schmenk, and Ron Albanese. Readmissions Joe Brigham and William Stahl. Members of the class of 2018: Dan Birck, Joe Tain, John Kopinsky, Wayne Vuolo, Robert Crowley, Richard Potson, Linn Spiller, Ron Nodzon, and Joseph Esgro. Don t forget we are only partway to our goal for Star Council this year. I have watched the Admissions Degree DVD and think it is great. The DVD has 4 places where it is paused so that we may physically accomplish a few steps. Ed O Connor is leading the digital team.. We will execute this ceremonial on Tuesday, April 4. Candidates will report at 6:30 in the library. Be a part of this historical moment and come welcome your new brothers. We have three brothers making their Knighthood degree (third) in Bradenton on April 7. On the business side, our Worthy Deputy Grand Knight Tim O Connor will be unable to fill the position of Grand Knight due to professional commitments. So we now are looking for a Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight. If you are not interested in one of these positions, then perhaps you can be of great help by taking other responsibilities. How? By taking responsibility for specialties such as our breakfasts and exemplifications. I ve recently outlined various activities that need chairpersons. Thanks goes to Brother Peter Rots for volunteering to be the co-chair of our golf tournament! We need one more co-. Thanks also to Brother Larry Fischer for his interest in this newsletter!!!!! If you re traveling in the days and weeks ahead, I hope your travels are smooth and happy. Let s go! Kevin

Cross and Compass Page 3... Along the way Our Father in Heaven gave us our souls at the time that our parents gave us our bodies. And His intention from that moment on is that we be happy in this life. He doesn t tell us (usually) specifically what will give us that happiness but He does show us the way to live so we can attain it. Jesus is the Way. In His love for us, our Father also sends the Spirit of love and life to our souls so as to inspire each one to search for and find his happiness. If we can live in imitation of Christ we have our best chance of being happy. Because that will open our souls to receiving the Spirit. And He can then lead us to the happiness that our Father so fervently desires for us. And here is the way... Love one another as I have loved you! March 17, 2018, The Knights held the St Patrick s coffee for the church community. The theme was one of education about St Patrick s life and included Irish music, power point presentation, and a handout. We served coffee, scones and cookies. Tim, Jane and Peggy O Connor along with Kathryn and Paul Krause planned and organized the event. It was a great success with over 150 people in attendance. Worshipping is stripping ourselves of our idols, even the most hidden ones, and choosing the Lord as the centre, as the highway of our lives. Tickets are $1.00 each, or a book for $12. The person who sold the book enters his name on the back flap of the book and turns the book in with the 12 stubs to raffle coordinators Bill Sanchez or Bob Burhoe, with the $12.00. The council retains $6.00! We were issued 2,200 tickets and thus should have $1,100 profit when the last ticket is sold. Why do we need the sellers name? Because the seller is eligible for cash prizes as well. Winners will be chosen at the annual convention in May. Please see brothers Burhoe or Sanchez for more information. If you would like to take a book and sell it yourself, please see Brothers Burhoe or Sanchez. Our Council 9924 Needs You Election of Officers May 8, 2018 Paul Todd Christmas Concert December 2, 2018 We are rapidly approaching a new council year with a new Board of Officers. As you read in the Grand Knights report on Page One, Tim O Connor will not be able to move into the Grand Knights position. This means we need a Grand Knight and a Deputy Grand Knight for the years 2018-2019. On top of all of this, both of these positions have enough to keep them busy without having to worry about the Breakfast Buffets. We need two knights to co-chair the breakfast buffets. If this were not enough needs here is one more: Our Charity Golf Outing brings in a tremendous amount of money for local organizations. Fortunately Brother Pete Rots has stepped forward to co-chair this event. He needs another co-chair. We are a very active council and do a great deal of good for many folks in our community. In order for this to continue we need more followers to become leaders to keep Council 9924 in the forefront of all Florida Councils.
