Frostburg Elks #470 Volume 1 issue 5 May 2007 Message from e Exalted Ruler: Members and Guests: I would like to offer my condolences to e family of Roger Pollock. Roger was a loyal and dedicated member of our Lodge and he will be missed. I would like to ank e members who donated money for his funeral expenses. As we begin a new fiscal year our newly installed officers have been busy addressing e concerns of e Lodge. I would like to remind our members at ere are procedures in place to handle complaints/suggestions. You will see a suggestion box in e near future placed in e hallway of e Lodge. Please take advantage and forward your suggestions using is box. The Derby Day Committee is preparing for anoer July 4 Race. They are in need of volunteers. Contact Arur Bond if you have any free time to give. Cecil Smi will be making anoer Veterans Volunteer Trip to our Veterans in e Martinsburg, WV hospital on May 15. He is in need of cash to give to our Veterans by way of coupons. This is a good way for us to give back to e people at have put eir life on e line for our freedom. Please give generously. On May 5 approximately 48 members from Delaware will be visiting our Social Quarters. This group visits us every year and are always impressed by us as eir hosts. Please give em a great big Frostburg welcome. They will be visiting oer Lodges in e area as well. There will be a covered dish dinner once a mon. This mon it will be on May 13. Bring a covered dish and join e fun. The year s Golf Tournament will be held on May 26. There will be a Happy Hour and Casino Night on May 25. Sounds like a good time and hope to see you here. Each mon we will feature an Officer of e Mon to let members know a little about e Officer and e duties and responsibilities of at Office. OFFICER OF THE MONTH James L. Meyers, Jr. Exalted Ruler The formidable task of e Exalted Ruler includes formal appointment of e Inner Guard, Chaplain, Esquire, and e Members of e Committees required by e Laws of e Order. Appointment of e Presiding Justice and Mediator. Completion of memorization of e parts of e Opening and Closing Initiatory Rituals. Presiding at all meetings of e Lodge. Attendance at all meetings of e Board of Trustees as an ex-officio member wiout vote. Attendance at e Clinics of e District Deputy. Attendance at e annual and oer required meetings of e State Association. Preparation for e official visit of e District Deputy. Attendance at e Grand Lodge Session. Effectively administer e affairs of e Lodge and provide e leadership necessary to e accomplishment of its goals. The Exalted Ruler must have knowledge of e job and be able to maintain a harmonious environment, enforce Officer and Committee Members disciplines, meet schedules and deadlines, respond promptly to communications, observe proper protocol and has ultimate responsibility for promotional duties. James L. Meyers, Jr. (PER) is our Exalted Ruler and has again taken on ese duties and responsibilities. Jim has been a member in our Lodge for approximately 13 years. He has previously served as Exalted Ruler during e 1999-2000 year and also e 2006-2007 year. He was born in 1966 and is e son of Jim and Jean Meyers. He was raised in Midland, graduating from Valley High School in 1984. Upon graduation he served ree years in e U. S. Army as a Military Policeman in Meseau, West Germany at an Ammunition Depot and at Fort Polk, LA as part of e K9 unit. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from e military, he entered e Maryland State Police Academy in February, 1988. He has worked at e Barracks in College Park, McHenry, Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Westminster and is currently e Criminal Commander at e Frederick Barrack. Jim lives near Frostburg, is married to Rebecca and is e proud faer of Blake. Best wishes to Jim Meyers for a successful year.

Second Annual Frostburg Elks Golf Tournament nd The 2 Annual Frostburg Elks Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 26 at Maplehurst Country Club wi a 1:00 p.m. Shotgun start and a pretournament Happy Hour and Casino Night on Friday, May 25 starting at 7:00 p.m. at e Frostburg Elks Lodge. This tournament will be a (pick your own) four man team Oldsmobile Scramble. This format gives even e best hackers a chance to win. All levels of golfing experience are welcome. The cost is $65 per golfer, which includes e Friday night Happy Hour, green fees, cart, power ball, food and beverages on e course, prizes, and a dinner following e tournament at e Elks Lodge. We are looking for volunteers and sponsors for e event. Sponsorships are $50 and all sponsors will receive recognition on e golf course and in e Elks Newsletter along wi admission to e Happy Hour. If interested or for more details, contact any of e tournament committee members: Rickie Harris, Bob Connor, Gashouse Johnson, Billy Bond, Tommy Bond, Jim Webber or ask Deb at e Lodge. Contact any of e committee members or e Maplehurst Pro Shop at 301-689-6602 for golfing registration. Last year was a huge success but we can always try to do better, so your assistance and support are greatly appreciated. This is a great way to enjoy a round of golf and help support e Lodge. We hope to see you all on e course! All proceeds will go to e Frostburg Elks Lodge #470 Remember our Veterans Sam and Cecil will be visiting wi our Veterans in Martinsburg, WV in May. All donations toward is visit will be greatly appreciated. You can mail your donations to e Lodge or use e box in e hall. We have 400 veterans in e hospital in Martinsburg who need our support! WHICH ARE YOU? Are you an active member, e kind at would be missed, Or are you just contented at your name is on e list? Do you attend e meetings and mingle wi e flock, Or do you stay at home and criticize and knock? Do you take an active part to help e work along, Or are you satisfied to be e kind at Just Belong? Do you ever go to visit a member who is sick, Or leave e work to just a few and talk about e clique? There s quite a program scheduled, at you must have heard about, The oers will be ankful, if you ll come and help em out. So attend e meetings often, and help wi hand and heart. Don t be just a member but take an active part. Think is over, Member, you know right from wrong. Are you an active member, Or do you just belong?
