From the Senior Pastor s Desk October 2017 Word for the Month: JOY Scripture of the Month: James 1:2-8 Thought for the Month: Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships or, as they would say, because of them they are two of the most joyful people on the planet. In this unique collaboration, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu offer us the reflection of real lives filled with pain and turmoil in the midst of which they have been able to discover a level of peace, of courage, and of joy to which we can all aspire in our own lives. UMW Leadership Team Mtg. Saturday, November 11 10 am rooms 1-11/1-12 UMW Monthly Mtg. Sunday, November 19 After the 10:30 am service rooms 2-8/2-9 ANGEL TREE is back! This ministry, coordinated by Asbury UMW, allows our congregation to share the love of Christ during the Christmas season and through-out the year with children whose parent(s) are incarcerated. Asburyans and friends who have participated in this program found it to be a very rewarding experience. ANGEL TREE SUNDAY is November 12. This is the day that you may select your Angel(s) and purchase gifts from their wish list. Look for the Christmas tree with Angels in G-1. Each child will receive a minimum of two gifts, a toy or fun item and an article of clothing. Each gift should be approximately $20 in value. Volunteers are available to shop on your behalf., we wil be happy to help. RETURN GIFTS TO G-1 on December 3. Place unwrapped gifts in a gift bag if possible. It is very important that each gift is labeled with the child s first name and his/her code number. Drop-off gifts in G-1 after both services. Sunday, November 12 Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. ANGEL TREE CHRISTMAS PARTY is December 16 at 12:30 pm. The children and caregivers are invited to meet the volunteers, celebrate the meaning of Christmas, have lunch, play games and receive their gifts. Thank you for supporting this program for needy children. If you would like to be an ANGEL TREE volunteer, please contact Christine McDaniel at 301-420-2540, Brenda Fortenberry at 202-584 3787 or Lorraine Thompson at 301-210 3028.
