June 2018 Page 2 5918 Express Last week our newly elected officers were installed by our District Deputy Michael Enos. Let us give thanks to our past officers for the job well done for their time and talent I have been getting information on the new service program model called Faith In Action which replaces the previous Surge With Service program. It focuses on four program categories: faith, family, community and life. There will be information from the Supreme Council with recommendations for 32 programs eight from each category. Our Grand Knight and General Program chairman will be receiving this information. As your chaplain, I will be giving you guidance and support in helping you and your families to live as Catholics and properly serve the parish community. At our next meeting, I will be distributing information on our annual vocations raffle. Vivat Jesus! Deacon Tom (Continued from page 1) an s Memorial with our singing Amazing Grace. Next year let s try to get even more Knights to march to show our patriotism and appreciation to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. At the end of May, three of our Knights stepped up to help a parishioner of St. Scholastica move many items temporarily out of her house in Downers Grove as she attempted to get a reverse mortgage on her home. Jim Swidergal, Jim Leifel and Ron Samoska deserve a big pat on the back for showing the charitable giving of their time and energy in the tradition of a true Knight of Columbus. Also deserving of much thanks for their recent efforts are John Piotrowski, Joe Gajc, David Anderson, Tim Gontarz and Ron Wasielewski. These men and others have been helping with the membership drive after all Masses at Christ the Servant this month. There is a good possibility our council will get a few new members from their efforts. Supreme Council is instituting a new program for the coming year titled Faith in Action. Supreme defines it as the new umbrella program covering all Supreme Council-recommended programs. The four categories of programs are: Faith, Family, Community and Life. Local council- conducted programs will fall under these areas, such as a Rosary program, Family Fully Alive, Coats for Kids, and the Ultrasound program. Our Wednesday, June 27 meeting will be conducted by our Worthy Deputy Grand Knight Jerry Munley, as I will be out of town with my wife on vacation. Vivat Jesus! John Koys Grand Knight

Every stranger who knocks at our door is an opportunity for an encounter with Jesus Christ, who identifies with the welcomed and rejected strangers of every age. (Matthew 25:35-43) The Holy Mother of God herself experienced the hardship of exile (Matthew 2:13-15), lovingly accompanied her Son s journey to Calvary and now shares eternally his glory. To her maternal intercession we entrust the hopes of all the world s migrants and refugees and the aspirations of the communities which welcome them, so that, responding to the Lord s supreme commandment, we may all learn to love the other, the stranger, as ourselves.
