And yet, there exists both significant confusion and a general lack of knowledge about basic elements related to the topic. Presenters at the 2019 Simpson Forum will offer information and insights as to the nature of various issues related to immigration. For more information and break down of the day, see the Pamphlets available in the Narthex. 2 Church of St. Peter

Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER This week, I will be away for the Spring Pastoral Leader days. Our presenter will be Fr. Stephen Rosseti, who will present the holiness of priests in light of chastity and humility. I am looking forward to it. I have heard him several times before and have read a few of his books and articles, and they are always wellbalanced, prayerful, and thought-provoking. I was a little too antsy last week with the announcement of the audit findings. I apologize for this. I failed to confirm that the presenters were ready. If you have questions, you can speak to our trustees (Jeff Borgmeier, Agnes Stensby, Dale Male, or Sharon Steffen) or Jennifer or Chris. This week, of course, is Valentines Day. We do not celebrate it in the Church, however, as St. Valentine s memorial was suppressed. There are a few reasons for this - first it is unknown for sure about the details about St. Valentine - at least which is really honored. There is tale of one who was imprisoned for witnessing the marriages of Christians in opposition to the emperor s decree. From jail, he continued to council and console young lovers seeking the sacrament. Hence, the connection to love. We do have a memorial on the 14th, however, as we celebrate of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, who evangelized the Slovak peoples, and St Cyril even developed an alphabet for them so they could have the scriptures in their own language (yes, this is known and the Cyrillic alphabet). In the end, whether it St. Valentine or Ss. Cyril and Methodius, it is all about the love of Christ. It is Christ s love of us that ought to motivate us toward works of charity, generosity, and stewardship. Our love of Christ moves us to reach out to others in acts of justice and charity. Let love move us this week. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 We are a school readiness program focused on faith and service which nurtures the whole child embracing individual talents and abilities in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time 3

In Us, Among Us, Despite Us Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time For I am the least of the apostles, not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. Corinthians 15:9 The three men highlighted in today s readings have one thing in common: They were all aware of their unworthiness, their human weakness their sinfulness. Isaiah s lips were touched with a hot coal, giving him the courage to volunteer for God s service: Here I am...send me! (Isaiah 6:8). Paul confesses that he is the least of all the apostles. Nevertheless, the Grace of God has been at work in him. After seeing the extraordinary catch of fish, Peter falls on his knees before Jesus and cries, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man (Luke 5:8). But Jesus tells Peter,...from now on you will be catching men (Luke 5:10). The lesson for us is clear: God s grace works in us, through us, among us. Moreover, God s grace works despite us. We have no excuse for not responding to God s call, do we? Merciful God, help me to put aside all my excuses and respond to Your call today. Sr. Melannie Svoboda, S.N.D. Growing Together in a Stewardship Being a Knights of Columbus is a vocation; it is a calling from God; it is a gift. You are a Knight 24 hours per day. You are a Knight to your children and grandchildren, to your wife, to the person next to you in Church, to your parish and to your community. As a gift, you are to make it grow. As a Knight, you must go on the offense. As a Knight you live by these actions: Think well of others. As the Body of Christ we are all brothers and sisters. Plant the seed of hope and faith wherever you go, with all that you meet and come into contact. Keep your eyes and ears open. Listen for the opportunities. You are a disciple of Christ. Your tongue will be your most powerful weapon. Be sincere in all of your dealings. Speak well of others. Do unseen works of charity. Do these works well, even the little things. You know if you did, God knows if you did, no one else needs to know. Have hope, become a new person. Today is a new day. Have the initiative to do more and do it with a smile. Consider becoming a Knight. Talk to a knight today! There is a chance on February 23rd at the Church of St. Peter to do just that! Amazing opportunity for NEW JI Students We are pleased to announce that a generous steward has given a generous donation in the form of a challenge. Because of it, we are able to offer reduced tuition for the 1st year for 10 newly enrolled children at John Ireland School. Tuition for newly enrolled children will be reduced by $500 per child! To qualify, the family must be new to the John Ireland community with no previous children enrolled in John Ireland School. The child can be at any grade level, K-6, and enroll anytime in 2019 (even starting now). The donor further pledges a $1000 per child If there are more than 12, for up to 20 children (that s $20,000). This is a great opportunity for families who are considering John Ireland School. If you are interested in more information, contact Principal Colleen Wenner or Fr. Todd. For those without a child, if you wish to match this gift, sponsor a child by paying his or her tuition, or give toward our scholarship fund in general, please contact us.
