PASTORAL LEADER S NOTES Dear Parishioners, Today is Laetare Sunday! This fourth Sunday of Lent marks a joyful relief in the midst of the seriousness of Lent. The name Laetare is the Latin word for rejoice and this weekend marks the halfway point of Lent. It is a day to celebrate AND evaluate our Lenten practices that we began on Ash Wednesday. Do we need to CHANGE our Lenten practice? Maybe we gave up candy for Lent and that isn t a sacrifice to pass up anymore. Is it time to switch to desserts or soda? Do we need to ADJUST our Lenten practice? Maybe the time or place we set aside for prayer isn t working. Is it time to pray in the morning or find a church to stop in during the day? Do we need to START a Lenten practice? Maybe we just couldn t even make a start this year. Remember it s not too late. There are still three more weeks of Lent. Start TODAY! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Nominations for Parish Council and Parish Trustee Please take some time this week to fill out the Nomination Forms that you will find in the bulletin this weekend. I need your help in nominating people you think would be good members of our Parish Council or a Parish Trustee in both Omro and Winneconne. Each person nominated will receive a phone call telling them that they have been nominated and then inviting them to be part of the selection/ election process. No one is ever part of this process without their permission. The Parish Council is the leadership group in the parish that helps to set the vision and direction for each parish. This group works to carry out the goals and objectives of our Parish Mission Statement. Meetings are held monthly except during June through August and the term is for three years. Parish Council members are selected from the group of those nominated. A Parish Trustee is called to serve the parish as an advisor and overseer and are responsible for signing the checks for the parish. Trustees are elected by members of the parish and serve a two year term. Is God calling you to be a member of the Parish Council or a Parish Trustee for our parish? SOUP & SERMON Tuesday, March 13 12:00 1:00pm in OMRO We had another great session of our Lenten Soup and Sermon last week. I hope you will join us this Tuesday as we look at Part 3: Hope in Action, from the book, Beautiful Hope. Remember you are welcome even if you haven t been able to join us until now. And if you can t be with us on Tuesday the book is now available at the entrance to both churches. Don t hesitate to pick up an extra one to share with a friend or family member! Here s a little excerpt from what we discussed this week:...there isn t anything that can stand in the way of God if his people respond generously to his call to love one another as he loved us. Take a moment and imagine what your parish could do for those in need if every parishioner gave what they could. Everyone can do something, and it all makes a difference. Even delivering a meal or mowing the lawn can change everything for a family in need. If everyone gave what they could, the Catholic Church would be the brightest light the world has ever seen... Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday at noon in Omro! or We are offering another opportunity for you to join us. A condensed version of Soup and Sermon will be held, Wednesday, March 14 at 6:00pm at St. Mary, Winneconne in Kaudy Hall. ++++++++++++++++++ Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. -Pope Francis Sr. Pam
STEWARDSHIP NEWS (Winn. & Omro) Let Go Enter In Never Give Up Time Out Each week we have been covering the ideas presented by Julianne Stanz, Director of New Evangelization, Green Bay Diocese, to help us experience a deeper Lenten journey. This week we will unlock the grace of Lent by using the last of the these four keys, L-E-N-T: This week Time Out - Julianne shares the following: Time out. Lent is a busy season. Give yourself a time out by spending time in silence every day. This should be a time when you sit with God and listen to what God is saying. You can do a little spiritual reading during this time and practice lectio divina, the ancient art of reading the Scriptures. Prayer is never wasted time; it always leads to renewed focus and energy. Remember the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta, who tells us that, The fruit of silence is prayer. The fruit of prayer is faith. The fruit of faith is love. The fruit of love is service. The fruit of service is peace. When you put the Lord first in prayer, you will find your days surprised with many graces, especially during the Lenten season. Your Adult Faith Formation Department presents and evening for women: Meals, Mass and Mystics A cooking class with a Catholic twist! St. Mary Kaudy Hall, Winneconne Friday, March 23, 2018 6:00 9:00pm This event combines a love of cooking with insights from the lives of the saints and the mystics as well as our experience of the Mass. Breaking of the bread is a key part of our everyday living as Christians whether it be at the Eucharistic table or the kitchen table! This event will encourage you to look at the Mass and your faith in a renewed way. Be filled bodily and spiritually! Amberley will share recipes, stories, and techniques from her years in the kitchen along with opportunities for prayer, faith-sharing, and reflection. Whether you're 18 or 88, grab a friend, daughter, mother, sister and join us for good food, great friends, and a dash of faith! Join us for cooking with a Catholic twist and drinking with the Saints If you know you will be attending please call the offices: 582-7712 or 685-2258 so we have enough food. WINNECONNE NEWS CHRISTIAN ACTION MINISTRY EASTER HAM COLLECTION Christian Action Ministry (CAM) is supporting the efforts of (WAAC), the Winneconne Area Assistance Center, by helping feed the hungry in our community. This year CAM is collecting money to help purchase Easter hams for families in need. We are asking parishioners to participate in this collection on the weekends of March 17 & 18 or March 24 & 25 to help fund this project. There will be posters and collection boxes set up at each church entrance on these weekends. Please donate to this wonderful cause. This year WAAC estimates needing 80 hams. From the monies collected, CAM will purchase the hams and deliver them to WAAC to give to the families for Easter. Please assist CAM in helping WAAC feed our brothers and sisters this Easter. Bishop s Appeal 2018 Embracing A Life of Discipleship The Bishop s Appeal is an opportunity to go beyond ourselves, beyond our parish and help other people. How will you respond? Living the Gospel March 11 is the 4 th Sunday of Lent John 3:14-21 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Pray: Jesus, Nicodemus came to you because he wanted to find out more about you. May I share in this sacred curiosity so I, too, may be drawn closer to you, emerging from the darkness to be embraced by your light. March 17, 2018-2-5pm First Communion Retreat Students will spend the afternoon on retreat as they prepare for their first Communion. Please continue to pray for these students. Prayer for a Child s First Communion Lord Jesus, Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. Shadow Stations of the Cross March 21, 2018 6:30-7:30pm This is a Family Night for all families in our Faith Formation Program. This replaces all classes on March 21. Students should attend with their families; this includes elementary, middle school, and high school students. The parish is also invited to attend this special Lenten Prayer.
