Immaculate Conception Church Staff Connection... Parish Mission Statement Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrates the Eucharist and proclaims the gospel in worship, through our love of God and for each other, and with our ministry to the marginalized. We journey together in our faith, united by our trust in Christ s love and mercy and the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. October 1, 2017 Time moves fast. Where did September go? The weather was good that is why it went so fast. October is here and before we know Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here. In the meantime, it is good to focus on the issues before us: October is the Month of the Holy Rosary. As it has been our practice in our parish, I invite everyone to dedicate time to privately pray the Rosary daily on the road walking or driving, and take sometimes at least once a week to pray the Rosary with friends and family. There is so much to pray for; for peace in the world, for victims of natural disasters, for peace in the families, and for individual souls. We shall have plenty of opportunities to pray community Rosary at our Church on Mondays and Thursdays 11.45 AM before the 12.10 PM Daily Mass. Something to look forward is the first Saturday of the month, October 7 which happens to fall on the feast of the Holy Rosary. I invite everyone for the Holy Hour which begins at 3 PM. Come prepared to pray the Rosary which will start at 3.30 PM before the benediction. It is good to be with Jesus in the company of His Mother and our Mother! The Gospel of this weekend has very challenging questions. We have a picture of two imperfect boys. Neither of the son in the story was of the kind to bring joy to his father. Both were unsatisfactory; but one in the end obeyed was certainly better than the one who did not. The ideal son would be the one who received the father s orders with obedience and carried them out fully. What can we learn from this story? There are two kinds of people in this world. There those whose professions is much better than their practice. They will promise anything, they have God constantly on their lips, but in practice they do very little. For many Christians today, Christianity has been reduced to some intellectual concepts. There are those who profess no interest in religion and yet do generous things, sometime secretly. People like this have a lot to teach the rest of the people of any religion. They have something to offer to the world. The central teaching of this parable is that the really good person is the one whose faith and action match. Promise can never take the place of performance and fine words can never be substituted for fine deeds. Our Lord taught us and modeled by his life and mission. He came to serve and was obedient to the will of the Father to the very end. Amani kwenu. Mungu awabariki! Fr. Chumo Mass Schedule Monday & Thursday 12:10PM Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 7AM Vigil Mass Saturday 4:30PM Sunday 8:30 & 10:30AM George Green Parish Center 113 North Geneva Street Ithaca, NY 14850 *** 607/273-6121 Sacraments Baptism: A preparation session is required before the baptism of your child. CMA Goal for 2018: $60,246 All goals include a 3% increase for inflation as represented in the diocesan budget. Our goal is based on the following statistics for our parish: # of Households: 1366 Weekly Mass Attendance: 580 (October 2016) Ordinary Offertory: $507,853 Median Income (2013-2017 US Census)$44,153 Remember, the church is responsible for reimbursing the Diocese for any shortage on our goal. We count on everyone to help us reach our goal. Immaculate Conception Icon The Knights of Columbus will be presenting an image of The Blessed Virgin of the Immaculate Conception at the Holy Hour from 3-4pm on Saturday, October 7th. This Icon was obtained by the Supreme Council and has been circulated for viewing amongst the Councils of the Finger Lakes District in the Rochester Diocese. This particular Icon has completed it s circulation and we are now looking for a permanent home. After hearing this, Fr. Chumo applied for our church. The Supreme Executive Committee have decided that Immaculate Conception is the rightful place for the Icon and Fr. Chumo will accept it formally at this Holy Hour. It will be presented by a Senior Representative from the State Council. A reception and viewing will follow in the Parish Hall. Our most recent annual accounting period ran from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. Separate records are kept for (1) the general parish, (2) the school and (3) the cemetery. Today, a few comments on the general parish financial results. Next week, some comments on the school and cemetery results. At June 30, 2017 parish operating expenses of $682,700 (payroll, benefits, utilities, insurance, maintenance, etc ) exceeded operating revenues of $654,600 ( collections, gifts, rents, etc. ), resulting in a parish loss of about $28,100. Included in parish expense was a $60,000 subsidy to the school. Some revenues were less than we budgeted and some expenses were more than we budgeted, but overall there were no individual items too far out of line. Looking ahead, we expect better results and are finalizing a new budget that does not include the school subsidy expense. Thank you for your financial support and your confidence in our parish management.
