Dear Parishioners, OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Happy Independence Day Weekend! Hopefully in the midst of the days of leisure, we will turn our hearts to the Lord to thank Him for our 240 years to freedom. But we also might reacquaint ourselves with the original intent of our nation s founders in fight for freedom. They sought freedom to practice their faith - that the government would not impose faith on it s citizens. They sought a nation that would allow people to live their lives in freedom and to seek happiness. But they also understood such freedom was from God, and that if God was eliminated, no matter how ethical the leaders are, eventually democracy would decay into tyranny. Citizens are called to vigilance, and leaders are to be held accountable. With that in mind, I find it extremely disturbing that the Supreme Court has struck down a commonsense law that was meant to protect women. Set aside the morality of abortion for a second, and forget, too, that abortion intentionally ends the life of an unborn human. Should not abortionists be held to the same medical standards as medical professionals? Should not the clinics have standards that allow assess of gurneys, meet minimal guidelines for cleanliness, and be inspected on a regular basis? Five judges basically said no, that abortion is such an inviolate right that nothing, even laws designed to protect women, are revocable. Only a year ago, we started hearing about Planned Parenthood selling the body parts, and instead of investigating, the response was to indict the investigator (all charges have been dropped, but still proves the point). We are remove God and morality from law, and reducing freedom from liberty to chose the right to licentiousness to chose whatever one wishes. In this Year of Mercy and this election year, let us beg God s mercy on us, on our nation and our leaders. In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Petersen ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE July 3-10, 2016 Sunday, 14 th Ordinary Time July 3rd 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass, (+Parish Family), St. Peter Monday Independence Day 8 AM Mass (+Pat Mears), Chapel Offices closed Tuesday 8 AM Mass (+Henry Hansen), Chapel Wednesday 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10:30 AM Mass, (+Helen Vogt), Benedictine Thursday 8 AM Mass (Evelyn Alger), Chapel 1-10 PM Eucharistic Adoration, Chapel 3:30 PM Confession 9-10 PM Summer with the Son, Chapel Friday 8 AM Mass (James & Nancy Vetter), Chapel Saturday 12-1 AM Midnight Watchmen, Chapel 5 PM Mass (+Betty Glynn & Michael Smith), St. Peter Sunday, 15 th Ordinary Time July 10 th 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass, (+Parish Family), St. Peter ---------------------------------------------------- Pray the Rosary Weekdays, prior to mass, join us for the Rosary in the Chapel. ---------------------------------------------------- Make a difference by leaving a gift to the Church of St. Peter in your will.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DID YOU KNOW? The Church of St. Peter has been partnering with The Kitchen once a month. For those of you who aren't familiar with The Kitchen, a group of people serve a free meal every Monday evening at Trinity Lutheran Church to help those in need. It is a wonderful program that has been serving about 80-100 meals every Monday for the last several years. For the last year our church has been helping out one Monday a month by cooking, serving, cleaning, etc. We have been asking different groups to help out each time we serve and for our next meal we would like to invite anyone in our parish to help. Our next meal will be July 18th. Would you like to help? You can sign up for either the early or the later shift: Early Shift (4:45-6:45) - Set Up and Serving Late Shift (5:20-7:20) - Serving and Clean Up Who can help? We are looking for people going into 2nd grade through adults. We do ask anyone under the age of 13 have an adult with them. It is truly a rewarding experience. If you are able to help, please let Mary Grack know how many in your family are able to help and which time slot you will be able to help with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you know?
