Macy s tells us to Believe. Target s website says, bring on the holiday happy. Our car radios belt out songs like It s the Happiest Time of the Year. Our streets are all decorated in bright lights and holly, and of course, Santa made his big entrance in the Thanksgiving Day parade! This is all well and good, and makes us feel nice. But, doesn t it also feel like something is missing? What s it all for? It s easy to see that retailers are using the season to get us in the door to buy more products, or radio stations are selling advertising. Good for them. However, does this help point us to the birth of our Savior? I m not so sure. How did Jesus himself feel about people using a religious occasion for profit? I remember him getting pretty angry about it, and turning tables over. Perhaps it s time for us to use this time to humbly serve our fellow human beings, and think about what it truly means to Keep Christ in Christmas. It s a catchy phrase, and I like that. However, it should be more than that. It should be our number one priority each holiday season. Happy Holi---Er, I mean MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Vivat Jesus. Fraternally, Dave Peterson Grand Knight Apple Valley Council 9096

Page 4 KC Apple Valley Newsletter November 2018 Anniversaries The Knights of Columbus Apple Valley Council 9096 would like to recognize the following significant membership anniversaries that occurred during the previous month. Thank you for your membership and service to our great organization! Douglas Vetter - 5 years Mike Durand - 5 years Vincent Byrne - 55 years Culture of Life Corner By Terry McCall Knightly News recently listed the programs to focus on this next year. They include Faith, Community, Family, and Life. The point for us is to use these action areas in order to attract men. KC s, Join to put Catholic social teaching into practice with other men... Men, join to DO stuff! Let your programs, activities, and your ACTIONS evangelize! A friend, a long-time parish member, and inactive brother Knight, marveled the other day at all the good things that the KC s do for our community, and for the church. I invited him to re-join us at our meetings. He is now retired but still active at Risen Savior. It is the life of Christian action in the KC s, along with an invite, that may bring him back. From a Life perspective I m humbled by our Council s commitment to the Good Father program at Pregnancy Choices. Someone from the Center will give us an update in January. Supporting this need fits well with the new KC Pregnancy Center Support initiative. It is distinct and separate from the Ultra Sound program in which our Council was the key to orchestrating statewide support for a new machine. Special thank you s to Steve Dahl for coordinating the Ultrasound initiative several years ago. Ditto s to Dan Hines for coordinating the already successful Cinnamon Roll sales to support the Good Father Program, and as always, to Dave Commerford for his friendship, and continued commitment to Life. Here is a list of other Life initiatives suggested by State and Supreme for 2019. Christian Refugee Relief March for Life (featured) Mass for People with Special Needs (new) Novena for Life (completed Nov. 4) Pregnancy Center Support (new) Special Olympics (featured) Ultrasound (featured) Here s a link for more information: https://www.kofc.org/en/programs/life/index.html Regards, Terry McCall
