St Pius St X Pius Council X Council 10762 10762 My worthy brother Knights, This month I reflected on those simple but powerful words, Our Daily Bread which many of us say daily without thinking when we say the Our Father. I see Our Daily Bread when I consider the beautiful flowers blooming in our desert. I hear it when I hear Abe and our choir singing on Sunday. I taste it when I enjoy a simple wonderful meal. It comes together for me spiritually when I receive the Host. But sometimes I wrongly feel slightly guilty for enjoying and admiring that which our God has given to us. Then I remember that Jesus used nature, food and music as a teaching tool by helping us see that within all that is beautiful and tasteful, there is the hand of Our Father and that most importantly, that it is given to us to share. As we began a new year with hope in our hearts and with well meaning good intentions to create change, whether it is for ourselves, our families, our church or our communities, we know we are facing a period of difficulty. Personal problems, national problems and international problems beset us with a perception of insurmountable difficulties which can cause a sense of defeatism or of just giving up. Instead of giving in, turn to what we have accomplished in the past and to what is positive in our lives. Turn to the basic foundations of our Faith and our family. Hold on to those, build on them, strengthen them, and we, as Knights and Catholics, will prevail in our endeavors to better everything around us which will envelope us in a mantle of love, happiness and well being. Follow the examples of our February Family of the Month, Joe and Joan Keaney, and our February Knight of the Month, Dan Pinda. They exemplify the best traits of who we all are or should be. Since becoming your Grand Knight, I have been impressed with spirit of sharing the bounty we have been given by all Knights. The record of the Knights of Columbus in the United States is impressive. In 2012, as a group we gave over $167.5 million dollars and over 70 million hours of our time to charitable causes. This is impressive and our Council has done its share in this record. So, I ask all of you, to keep your hands firm on the helm of life and steer a true course by continuing to strive to make things better where we can and for those who need us most. Let us be in the fore front of our church and country by creating a kinder and more caring environment for all. Vivat Jesus, Emmanuel M. During the rest of the year, we often forget to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn t joined is because no one has asked him yet? Ask Eligible Men to Join Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity. We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order. When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a selling point to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members. As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can. Tony LoMonaco, FICF 520-275-8836 Anthony.lomonaco@kofc.org If you haven t sold your annual charity raffle tickets yet, please consider purchasing them yourselves or talk to friends and family and give them a chance to win some wonderful prizes.
