St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 2 From the Pastor Dear Members, During the week of July 6-10, I attended the annual convention of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians in Grand Rapids, MI. The keynote address and the general sessions were outstanding. Two major themes emerged. One was inclusion. We were reminded that the banquet of the Eucharist is intended for the strengthening and nurturing of the world. If we look at our Sunday assembly, who is missing? Who needs to be invited? Ironically, there were groups at the convention who did not feel that they were properly included or represented. There is still work that needs to be done. The second major theme was transformation. If we truly give ourselves to full, active, and conscious participation in the Eucharist, we cannot help but be changed. The more we become really present to the Real Presence of our Eucharistic Lord, the more he will shape us to be like Himself. As St. Augustine recommended his fellow Christians: Become what you receive. Over the next several weeks, I ll be sharing a summary of the major talks. At some point they will be available online at the NPM website. I m going to try to download them when they become available. They really are worth listening to in full. Peace and every good, FJ Year of Consecrated Life. This is the 50th anniversary of the closure of the Second Vatican Council. The Council represented a breath of the Holy Spirit upon the whole Church. Consecrated Life undertook a fruitful journey of renewal which has been a time of grace. Our topic is: The Four Faces of Jesus. All are welcome. Bring a friend and let s explore the Catholic faith. MISSION POSSIBLE! Possible, yes. Easy, no. Where there is doubt, faith. Has there been a time in your life when you dealt with feelings of doubt? What was your reaction to those feelings? We sometimes flippantly talk of doubting Thomas but just a few chapters before the passion narrative Thomas speaks up and declares his faith in Jesus; his willingness to go with Jesus to die. Do we do the same? We declare our faith only to doubt when things are different than we might expect or want to happen. Please say yes to a DeColores Weekend! It is a gift from the Holy Spirit. Many experiences in life inflict wounds upon our hearts the death of a loved one, the betrayal of a relationship, the loss of a job or a dream. When these wounds occur, we realize that we are not in control. When we are in touch with our wounds, these deep and sacred scars, we become vulnerable. We will explore how the losses we suffer in life can teach us humility and compassion that over time will bring about healing and hope and become wounded blessings. Fr. Joe Nassal, CPPS is the author of eight books, including The Conspiracy of Compassion. Ordained in 1982, Fr. Joe has been involved in retreat, renewal and reconciliation ministry for more than 25 years. Cost: $30 (lunch included). Register online at Snows.org/healing.
