Gifts for Men Recently Released from Prison Parishioners will have the opportunity to buy items needed by men as they are released from prison in Sudbury. There are twenty times as many men than women in the criminal justice system, and that is why we are focussing on the men who are starting over. There will be 4 baskets in the back of the church and you are invited to buy the following items and to place them in the designated baskets: 2 pairs of all-weather socks, 1 pair of underwear (size large or x-large), toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a t-shirt (size large or extra large). Please place the items in the designated baskets by the giving tree. All items must be brought to the church no later than Sunday, December 16th. Thank you for helping those whom others may choose to judge and for showing them the unconditional love of Christ which we celebrate at Christmas! Adult Christmas Choir Practices will be held on Tuesdays, Dec. 4th, 11th & 18th at 6:30 pm in celebration of our Lord s Birth at the 9 pm Christmas Eve Mass. Children s Christmas Pageant and Choir Practice will be held at the Church, Sundays, December 2nd, 9th & 16th @ 2pm in celebration at the 4:30pm Christmas Eve Mass. Families are encouraged to attend! Pastoral Pondering The theme for this Advent Season for our church is There is a longing in our hearts. The song in Celebrate in Song called There is a longing inspires this focus and will help to draw our attention to what can truly satisfy our hearts longings every week of Advent. We all know from experience that our hearts are never full until they are filled with the Holy Spirit of God! Our hearts are never truly satisfied until they can rest in the presence of God! Indeed, our Gospel reading for this weekend says, Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. What does this mean? When our hearts are weighed down by sin, we cannot be made right with God. When our lives are ruled by pleasures (aka dissipation) we can never know the value of hard work and overcoming obstacles to holiness. When our lives are controlled by alcohol or other chemical substances, we can never know what it is like to live soberly knowing our place in the world and our true relationship to God. When our lives are filled with worries, we fail to trust in the Lord who alone can calm our fears and give us renewed resolve to overcome them. Yes, our hearts are longing for righteousness, for holiness, for honest living, and for full trust in God. When we commit to such goals, our hearts begin to be satisfied because we ve allowed God s Holy Spirit to affect us from the inside out! A pastoral pondering as we begin our Advent journey to Christmas joy.

Attention Volunteers with Police Checks Three years ago, the Diocese began a policy of only requiring police checks every six years for those involved in ministry to children or the elderly. This includes all clergy as well whose police checks are on file with the chancery office. Following the policy of most other organizations who require police checks as part of a screening process (teachers, healthcare workers), the interim years only require your signature on an affidavit, stating that your record is clean since last year. To make it easy for you to sign your affidavit, you can stop by the office between 8 am to 4pm on Tuesdays to Thursdays or Fridays from 8am to 1pm. In addition, Antonella Gregorini, our Volunteer Coordinator, will be available before and after all masses on the weekend of December 8 and 9 th. Please see her on that weekend if you have not already done so, to complete your affidavit. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding! ---- Fr Sam SAVE THE DATE! ONE DAY ONLY!
