Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council #5903 December 2018 Volume 1, Issue 35 The Councilor CHARITY UNITY FRATERNITY
Grand Knight Message Jify Loretta GK jify@aol.com (732) 289-8011 Grand Knight Letter Worthy Brothers, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. During this time, we all need to be thankful and grateful for what we have. As we all well know there are many that are less fortunate than us. From a social media perspective, we have our Facebook page and web site up and running. I d like to thank our Chancellor Joe LaCunga for coordinating this. I d like to also thank brother Lou Leonardelli. Lou did an outstanding job with our Send Hero Home for the Holidays program. He raised $2400.00 and the council donated an additional $500. This was partially funded by selling wrist bands and lapel pins. You can still purchase either item, so please stop by and buy one (or many). We are also selling Christmas cards in our lounge and the Keep Christ in Christmas magnets will be arriving soon, We had a good turnout for the annual Thanksgiving basket distribution at the Samaritan Center. I d like to personally thank all the brothers and wives for attending and helping out. Father Mike dropped by and blessed the food. Brothers, as you can see, we have many initiatives running at the same time all for good causes. During this Christmas season, please get involved with the Council, attend meetings and fund raisers and most importantly help a neighbor in need. As a unified council we can continue to do great things. 2018-2019 COUNCIL OFFICERS Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council #5903 Chaplain Rev. Michael Gentile Assistant Chaplain Deacon Keith J. Casey, PGK Grand Knight Jify Loretta Deputy Grand Knight Bruce Matano Chancellor Joe Lacugna Recorder John Augello Financial Secretary Steve Timpone Treasurer Sal Carollo Advocate William Spadaro Warden Michael MacInnes Inside Guard Michael Murphy Outside Guard Vincent Bonello Lecturer John Harris Sr. Three Year Trustee Paul Zelinski Two Year Trustee John Peragine, PGK One Year Trustee John Harris Sr. Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long -term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities. The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, Saipan, Lithuania, Ukraine, and South Korea.
