ALTAR ROSARY COUNTER We now have Lent/Easter items and books for adults and children. Lent at SJV Parish During Lent we invite you to join us as we prepare for Easter in a spiritual way. The following Lenten programs are being offered this year for the entire parish community. An afternoon of scripture and music, Sunday March 15 th at 3:00 Pm in the church. Plan on joining us on Latare Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Lent) as scripture readings are proclaimed and our adult choir leads us in singing a presentation of Lenten and Holy week music. Hopefully we can all join in singing some of our traditional Lenten hymns together. Following the presentation, please join us in the school cafeteria for food and fellowship, as well as crafts for the children! Parish Tenebrae Service, Tuesday March 31 st at 7:30 Pm in the church. This year we will be holding the service in the evening! The distinctive ceremony of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are recited and chanted. Our adult choir will be leading us in the sung portion of the service. Plan on joining us as on Tuesday evening Holy Week!

ST. VINCENT de PAUL The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is collecting, new or gently used Communion dresses, suits and accessories for those less fortunate in our community. It is the perfect opportunity to donate those outfits your child has outgrown to make some other child s Communion day just as special. Please contact Barbara Morrisey 732-501-2195 or Donna Worosila 732-381-1584 to arrange for a pick up. Monetary donations are also welcome. God bless you for generosity during this Lenten season. CHRISM MASS On Monday, March 30, 2015 Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski will celebrate the Chrism Mass with the priests of the Diocese. At this Mass, the Bishop will bless the Holy Oils which each priest receives for the rites of anointing. Saint Ambrose (340-397) began this custom which we now call the Chrism Mass in his Cathedral in Milan. These Holy Oils, which are used to sanctify the Faithful, have been channels of holiness for centuries! The Oil of Catechumens is used to anoint the chest of infants and hands of adults before their Baptism; the Oil of the Sick is used on the forehead and hands of the inform in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick; and Sacred Chrism is used to anoint the head of the newly Baptized, the foreheads of confirmandi, the hands of a priest at this ordination, the head of a bishop at his ordination, and the altar and wall s of new churches. At the Mass, all priests make a Renewal of Commitment to Priestly Service, recommitting themselves to their Bishop and to their ministry to God and His People; the Bishop and all Priests then ask the people for a pledge of their prayerful support. All are strongly encouraged to join in the ancient, grace-filled Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen at 7:30 PM. St. John Vianney School News Congratulations to the Sinchire Family, winners of Calendar Raffle #5. The next Home School Association Meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:30 PM in the cafeteria. Please read the information letter for changes in the dates and times of the classes. Altar Server Ministry News From the Ministry Coordination Team At a very important time in Jesus life, He accepted the services of a young boy. This young boy provided five loaves and two fish for that very momentous miracle with which Jesus launched his teaching on the Holy Eucharist. The Sacred Writers do not tell us the name of the young boy, only his deed, and his act of service. Altar servers also perform a great deed of service, to our priests, deacons and our entire faith community. The parish family of St. John Vianney has been fortunate to benefit from the services at the altar of many fine young men and women over the years. Every three months or so, they recommit themselves to the schedule of rotation of Masses and volunteer their time to assist at funerals, weddings and special liturgies like Midnight Mass, Holy Week services or The Easter Vigil. On occasion, some of our youth will have completed their service as they prepare to graduate from High School or find the rigors of the rotating schedule too difficult to juggle with their increasingly busy, teenage lives. We have three such retirees this time around on the schedule: Joshua Restauro, Jared Quinton and Gabriel Beltran. Joshua started in 2007 as a fifth grader, as did Gabriel in 2010. Jared began as an eighth grader in 2012. Each will serve their final Mass this month in the coming weeks. If you think in terms of serving for seven or eight years, that could be over 200 liturgies served at the altar. Please join me in thanking these three young men for their service to the parish. Agnes Bacsik - Thomas Bresnan Mary Jantas YOUTH MINISTRY Youth Group Living Stations of the Cross practice continues this Sunday March 15th from 6:45pm to 9:00 pm in the Church at St. Cecelia's. Stewardship Reflections How much time, other than an hour on Sunday, do you give back to God for the many blessing that you have received? As Catholics, we are not to focus only on ourselves, but are called by our Baptism to reach out and share our time and talent with our brothers and sisters. Stewardship opens an avenue of thought that allows us to give, with no strings attached, and without questioning what we will get in return.
