SU/FES PRAISE & PRAYER LETTER November-December 2018 FOCUSING ON SCRIPTURE UNION (SU) November 1. Marianne Liaw is thankful to be able to contribute and serve in terms of writing to the Anglican Messenger (the magazine which is circulated in Anglican churches throughout West Malaysia). Please do pray that the article(s) she has written will be of encouragement to those who read it, that they will be built up and strengthened in the faith. 2. Joel Wong: Thank God for the invitation to speak at University Malaya CF Camp from 3-6 November 2018 on the topic of "Christ-Centered, Mission Minded". Please pray for preparation of the camp talks. 3. For the past 2-3 months, Lue Jun Yi and Marianne Liaw have been meeting up with some of the school CF volunteers to discuss ministry plans for the coming year. We are thankful to God for all who have faithfully served alongside us in this ministry throughout 2018. Please do pray for God to send more volunteers who are equipped and willing to reach the next generation with God s Word in the school CFs we are in touch with. 4. Please keep Marianne Liaw in prayer as she finalizes the devotional materials she is writing for some of the camps she will be involved in later this month and the next. Pray that these materials will be beneficial for the campers as they engage with God s Word during group devotions. 5. National School Christian Fellowship Leaders (NSCFL) Camp: We are three weeks away from the camp! Continue to uphold the committee in prayer as we finalize the preparation for the camp. Pray that all things planned out for will run smoothly, and may God s purposes be achieved through this camp. 6. Esther Lee: Thank God for Bible Reading subscribers who have been faithfully reading His Word daily. May their life be richly blessed as they encounter Him each day. As the end of the year draws near, pray that they will renew their subscription for 2019 soon. 1

7. Marianne Liaw looks back and thanks God for the privilege given to work together with her former Bible class student who is a Chin refugee to record a radio podcast show with Rhema Radio (A Christian radio podcast), highlighting the plight of Chin refugees who live in Malaysia, last month. Please do pray that the show will be helpful in creating awareness amongst Malaysian Christians so they can be praying for the Chin refugees in Malaysia. Joel Wong: Thank God for the invitation to conduct Bible Engagement (Stage 2) in Chinese in partnership with Creative Grace Ministry (Ipoh) today. 8. Pray for wisdom and discernment upon Charis Tan as she prepare and share her testimony in her church evangelism event on November. 9. Pray for the preparation for the 20th National Bible Knowledge Postal Quiz 2019. Pray that more centers will sign up for the Quiz and that the students will take up the challenge to participate in the Quiz. 10. Marianne Liaw, Daniel Chow and the ministry team are visiting Shal Home today to share God s Word with the residents. We thank God for the many residents who have come to trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Pray also that the residents will continue to grow in their knowledge and love of Christ in the midst of battling with mental illness. 11. Lue Jun Yi is speaking at Teratai Mewah Gospel Centre this morning. Pray for clarity of message as he expounds from 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 on The Church: The Body of Christ. 12. Continue to uphold Marianne Liaw and Daniel Chow as they work together with the rest of the camp committee to plan and organize the upcoming National Anglican Diocesan English Youth Camp. Please pray for good response and participation from the youths from various English-speaking Anglican churches throughout West Malaysia for this camp. 13. NSCFL Camp: We thank God for the campers who have signed up for the camp. Continue to pray for God to prepare their hearts as they listen and learn from God s Word and one another in the camp. 14. Please pray that many non-christians will come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ through the ministry of SU. 2

15. It s been 4 years since Daniel Chow and Marianne Liaw first made their marriage vows to each other! Please join them in thanking God for His grace in helping them grow in their love for Him and for one another as husband and wife. Thank God for the joy they have in serving together as Gospel partners. Pray that God will help them to remain faithful in loving Him all of their days 16. Pray for Elaine Liew as she shares with US4 SCF today on challenges faced by students. Pray that the Lord will speak his word of life and encourage the SCF. Pray the Lord to raise up leaders in the CF as they have been faithfully supporting the yearly Combined SCF Subang and Puchong camp. 17. Joel Wong thank God for the opportunity to partner with DUMC Youth to conduct Bible Engagement workshop on the topic of Friendship and Relationships during WordAlive Conference (23-24 Aug 2018). Bible Engagement - Dive Deep! Immerse in God s Word. The crucial importance of Scripture in the Christian life cannot be overstated. Pray that SU can be a catalyst to bring the Bible back to its foundational place in a Christian s life. 18. Marianne Liaw has been sharing God s Word regularly at Agape Outreach to the Blind (AOB). She thanks God that she can be part of a community of believers who are blind/ visually impaired. Please pray that together, they will continue to persevere in growing in Christ despite the obstacles and challenges they face in their daily lives. Lue Jun Yi is speaking at Setapak Gospel Centre this morning. Pray for the sufficiency of Scripture as he expounds from James 2:1-13 to the congregation. 19. Edwin Khoo: Please pray for more churches to pray and adopt nearby schools as mission ground. 20. Please continue to pray for Daniel Chow and Marianne Liaw as they serve in their home church, visiting the elderly, sick and homebound. Please pray that they will be able to share the love of Christ with those whom they visit, and encourage them through sharing God s Word and praying for and with them. 21. Lue Jun Yi and Chai Tze Kwang will be involved in two camps for the upcoming weeks. Pray for God s sustaining grace and strength as he serves in these two camps. 3

22. The school holidays are drawing closer! Please continue to pray for God s grace, wisdom and strength to be with Marianne Liaw as she plans and prepares the various talks for the 5 different camps she will be speaking in throughout the rest of November till December. 23. NSCFL Camp: Pray for the speakers as they prepare their sessions for the camp. Samuel Nesan will be taking the theme talks based on Galatians 2:20, while a host of speakers will be taking the various plenary sessions and workshops. Pray for the speakers to be faithful to God s Word and may the camper be challenged and encourage in their faith and ministry. Children s Camp with CCC Melaka (23-25 Nov 2018): Please pray for wisdom and the safety of Children Ministry team ( Jennifer Chew, Elkha Asok and volunteers) as they are travelling to Good Shepherd Centre, Melaka for this camp. Pray for a good time of learning through the camp and for opportunities for both campers and camp officers to bond and develop lasting friendships. 24. Girls Brigade Young Leaders Preliminary Training Camp ( 24-26 Nov 2018): Please uphold Marianne Liaw in prayer as she teaches and trains the girls who are attending this camp. Pray that even as she seeks to help the girls understand the aim and motto of the Girls Brigade, that the girls will come away with the understanding of what it means to seek, serve and follow Christ. Please pray for the GB officers who will be running and training the girls at this camp. 25. Please pray for Chai Tze Kwang as he will be heading to NSCFL tomorrow. Do pray for guidance as he ministers to young leaders from different CF s and YF s. He will also be doing a back to back camp with d NA the week after. Do pray for good health as he serves in these 2 camps. 26. NSCFL Camp (26 Nov-1 Dec 2018): Today is the first day of the NSCFL Camp at STM, Seremban. Please uphold the camp into God s hands - may it fulfill God s purposes and see the growth among the youths and schools work. Elkha Asok: Do keep staffs, volunteers and students in prayers to have a wonderful time learning and bonding in this camp. 27. Marianne Liaw will be heading to STM, Seremban today to speak at NSCFL camp s plenary session on being a Christian witness/influence in school as well as running a workshop on how to share the Gospel. 4

Please pray that what she shares will be helpful to the campers who are attending the camp in being faithful witnesses for Christ in their schools. 28. Today is the 3rd day of NSCFL. Do continue to pray for strength as the camp officers continue to minister to the youths in the camp. Please pray also for the participants, for an attentive ear and an open heart as they continue to listen to the various camp speakers for the rest of camp. 29. Please pray for wisdom and love as Marianne Liaw and Daniel Chow seek to walk alongside, help and support brothers and sisters in Christ who are visually impaired by visiting them, sharing God s Word with them and giving them the practical aid they need. 30. NSCFL Camp: The camp is coming to an end. We thank God for the many encounters and learning experiences in the camp. Pray for the students to continue to be on fire for God as they serve Him in their respective schools and churches. 5

December 1. The mini-library for Shal Home has been set up! Daniel Chow, Marianne Liaw and the ministry team who visit the home are thankful to God for all who have contributed generously towards the building of this library for the residents of the home. Please pray that the reading materials will enable the residents to continue to grow in their knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus Christ and enable them to engage their minds in a beneficial way. 2. Lue Jun Yi and Chai Tze Kwang just finished the NSCFL Camp yesterday. Pray for some time of rest and recuperating as he prepares himself for d NA next week. 3. Chai Siew Meng: As most subscription of our SU Imported Bible Reading Notes ends this December, please pray that the subscribers will continue to renew their subscription for the next year. Pray also that these Bible Reading Notes will continue to be meaningful as they use it together with God's Word. Pray that there will be new subscription for the coming year. 4. Daniel Chow and Marianne Liaw, together with the rest of the Anglican Diocesan Youth Council (DYC) thank God for the opportunity to meet and discuss matters pertaining to youth ministry in Anglican churches with the Anglican students (future church leaders) who are in STM late in October. Please pray that this meeting will lead to more opportunities for future Anglican pastors to work together with the DYC to build up the youths within the Anglican churches in the knowledge and love of Christ. Please pray for Chai Tze Kwang as he heads to d NA tomorrow. Pray for wisdom as he ministers to the youths coming for the camp. 5. d Nous Academy (d NA) (5-15 Dec 2018): d NA starts today. Pray for the students to be ready and eager to learn from God s Word and the various sessions. May the camp raise up Christian thinkers even among the campers this year. 6. Edwin Khoo: Please pray for more faithful Christian teachers to serve God in their respective schools. 7. The National Anglican Diocesan English Youth Camp (7-10 Dec 2018) begins today in Cameron Highlands! Please pray for all the campers who will be attending the camp, that they will have a good time of learning from God s Word, and understand what it means to be Saved to Serve. Pray for 6

Daniel Chow, Marianne Liaw and the rest of the camp committee, for God s strength and enablement to be with them as they organize and run various aspects of this camp. 8. Pray for clear direction for Charis Tan towards her ministry journey ahead in SU and church. May all the areas she serve able to please the Lord even in finding her purpose and fulfillment in life! 9. Marianne Liaw has been seeking to minister, support, encourage and walk alongside former students who are struggling with anxiety and depression. Please pray for wisdom, love and patience as she seeks to do so. Pray that as she seeks to point them to the hope they have in Christ, she will also be able to advise them on the practical assistance and help they can be getting to help them cope with their struggles. 10. d NA: We are halfway through d NA. Pray for God s grace and strength to sustain both the staff and campers in learning and encountering God through the various programs. 11. Marianne Liaw heads to STM once again today to teach a session on the 10 commandments at the on-going D NA camp. Please pray for the muchneeded energy, clarity of mind and focus needed to teach God s Word faithfully to the campers. 12. Pray that all who use the SUFES Campsite in Tapah will have a good and meaningful time. Pray for our campsite manager, Dennis Lim, and the Orang Asli team as they run the campsite. 13. Bible Engagement (BE) Team: Please pray for God s wisdom and direction to guide us through changes in the team in 2019. Pray also for more opportunities to conduct trainings in churches to inspire believers to read the Bible and know God better. 14. Girls Christian Camp (14-18 Dec 2018): Marianne Liaw is one of the main speakers for the annual camp this year. Please pray for her as she structures her talks to enable the intermediate level girls (ages 12-14) attending the camp to understand God s Big Story as revealed throughout all of Scripture. 15. d NA: Today is the last day of d NA. We pray for the students to continue to digest on their learning experience and continue to seek to know God and Christian faith more and more. 7

16. Lue Jun Yi thanks The Lord for a fruitful and meaningful ministry over the couple of weeks. Pray for rest as he winds down and prepare for next year. 17. Pray for Chai Siew Meng as he takes a break at the end of the year for rest and for a time of reflection. 18. SU Office Staff: Uphold the office staff Chia Pek Heong, Chai Siew Meng, Esther Lee and Sharon Wong - who support the ministry behind the scenes. Praise God for their dedication to SU all these years. Pray for strength, good health and the joy of serving God through SU. 19. Timothy Cheang: Personally for me: pray for me and my family as we expect the newest addition to our family- due 21 Dec. Pray also for a smooth delivery and for no complications for both my wife and the baby as my wife had a lot of post-delivery complications with the previous pregnancy. 20. 5 camps down! Marianne Liaw praises God for His grace in sustaining her throughout the busy camp period. Please pray for time and space for her to have a short rest before preparing to serve during Christmas time. 21. Marianne Liaw is looking forward to celebrating the joy of Christmas with her brothers and sisters in Christ in Agape Outreach to the Blind s BM Christian Fellowship today! Please pray that what she shares with them will point them to Jesus, who is the one true Saviour of the world. 22. Christmas draws near! Daniel Chow, Marianne Liaw and the ministry team are excited to join the residents of Shal Home in remembering and celebrating the birth of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ! Please do pray that the Christmas program today will run smoothly. 23. Please pray for the SU Team as we continue to reach the next generation with God s Word and make Christ known to them. 24. Daniel Chow and Marianne Liaw are looking forward to being a part of and serving in the various services throughout the Christmas week at their home church, St Mary s Anglican Cathedral. Pray that the Good News of Christ will be heard by those who will be attending the services. 25. Praise God for Christmas as we celebrate our Lord Jesus birth. Elaine Liew give thanks to God for his faithfulness throughout 2018, Praise and thanks to the Lord for encouraging growth in some of the SCF, she helps out with. Please pray for His continue hand of guidance and leading for the coming year 8

as she serve with SU, the street ministry, the refugee school and ladies ministry in her church. Pray for the many co-partners in the various ministries who faithfully give themselves to the Lord s work. 26. Edwin Khoo: Please pray for the Christian youth in Perak to love reading God s Word. 27. Chai Siew Meng would like to thank all who have been supporting and praying for him and his family. He also wants to thank them for their care, concern and support in many ways. He is also thankful to the Lord for His goodness and His faithfulness to him and to his family throughout this year. 28. Please join Marianne Liaw in giving thanks God for the many ministry partners who have come alongside her to partner with her in helping students and former students whom she has taught the Scriptures to who are in need. Pray that God will enable these students to know the love of Christ. 29. Charis Tan is grateful to the Lord throughout the year of 2018. It s been an adventures year with the Lord despite facing many life challenges. God s grace is sufficient and He is faithful! Pray that she will continue to be faithful to Him through everything she does and never lose hope in wherever challenges ahead! 30. Lue Jun Yi seeks prayer for wisdom and vision as he leads the Youth Team Ministry for another year ahead. Pray that he will be attentive to the Spirit s leading and seek the interest of both the staff and ministry above himself. 31. As 2018 draws to a close, Marianne Liaw thanks God for His all-sufficient grace in sustaining her for yet another year. Please pray that she will continue to render wholehearted service to Christ. May she be able to echo the words of the Apostle Paul: For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21) 9
