COMMANDER S MESSAGE Along with our regular meetings we once again will have our Sunday Breakfast on March 20th, serving from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM. Our 2nd Tuesday of the month and our Friday dinners are doing a little better, but we still need your support to continue to be able to provide these dinners for our members and guests. With March being upon us those who are contemplating running for a position on the Executive Board need to get their letter of intention to run to the Post Adjutant, Vic Gazzilli. You can be nominated off the floor at the April 17th Membership Meeting, but you must be in attendance to accept the nomination. Any member may run for an office as long as they are in good standing. Good standing means you are current with your dues and are not on suspension. Those that run for the office of Commander must have served one year on the Executive Board at any time in the past. MONTHLY HUMOR Six retired Italian Floridian fellows were playing poker in the condo clubhouse when Guido loses $1,000 on a single hand, clutches his chest, and drops dead at the table... Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continue playing, but standing up. At the end of the game, Giovanni looks around and asks, "So, who's gonna' tell his wife?" They cut the cards. Pasquale picks the low card and has to carry the news. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don t make a bad situation any worse. "Discreet? I m the most discreet person you'll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name. Leave it to me!" So, Pasquale goes over to the Guido's condo and knocks on the door. The wife answers through the door and asks what he wants? Pasquale declares: "Your husband just lost $1,000 in a poker game and is afraid to come home." "Tell him to drop dead!" yells the wife. I'll go tell him." says Pasquale. DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME Just a reminder, don t forget to turn your clocks AHEAD 1 hour as Daylight Saving Time starts on March 10th.

Over the years, the Legion has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for children and youth. RICK C. SIMONS It is with sadness that we report the passing of Post member Rick Simons on February 4th. Rick was a long time member of our Post and was very active as an officer serving as Sgt.-At-Arms for many years. He was currently the Post Disaster Preparedness Officer. Rick was on the Post Building Committee that did the planning for the construction of our Post. For many years Rick chaired the bowling program for our Post. Rick was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. A good friend for over 40 years, I will miss him. Our condolences go out to his family. Rest in Peace my friend. Fred Williams PC American Legion Centennial On March 15th the American Legion along with the American Legion Auxiliary will celebrate 100 Years of serving the Community, State and Nation. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of warweary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country. Today, membership stands at over 2 million in more than 13,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines. The first Post was chartered in Paris, France after the first World War on March 15, 1919. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Our next membership meetings will take place on Wednesday, March 20th starting at 6:30 PM. Please plan on attending our meeting and voice any concerns that you may have. As always, there will be refreshments served after the meeting. We currently have 647 members paid so far, which includes 25 new members. This gives us 93% of our quota of 695. NOTICE PLEASE READ!! "If you pay your Legion membership online, you will have to send the Post membership person proof that you paid your dues. There is a receipt at the bottom of your online confirmation to send to the Post. I cannot send your membership card until I receive this confirmation. Please send this in as soon as possible." This is a reminder that the 2018 Membership Cards have expired. The new 2019 cards are now out. You can renew your dues anytime. Our dues will remain at $40.00. Please note that if you receive a renewal notice from National and you have paid your 2019 dues, just disregard the notice and throw it away. If you are not sure you have paid your dues, just check your membership card, if it says 2019 on it, you are paid. Thank You. New Hartford American Legion Post 1376 would like to welcome the following new members to our Post. Please welcome: Julie Smith and William Bloomquist. As always we truly appreciate your continued support of our Post and we look forward to your continued support in the future.
