General Membership Meeting Minutes August 7, 2018 The Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Grand Knight Paul Robert. Roll call was taken. Minutes from previous meeting were approved as amended. Report of Admissions: (PGK Steve Zajac) We welcome our new Brother Knight, Ryan Raisins. Brother Shawn Williams was unanimously accepted as a transfer into our Council. We welcome Brother Shawn, as well. Grand Knight's Report: (GK Paul Robert) Based on the feedback that I have observed short meetings seem to make most of us happy. Please assist me with my goal of keeping our meetings to a reasonable length by keeping discussions as short as possible and focused on the topic at hand. This past weekend was Choose Life weekend. Many of our Knights and wives wore their Choose Life ties and scarves even to the Pasta dinner. Many also wore their name tags or lapel pins. This made it obvious that we have a strong and active Knight s Council in our parish. Pasta Dinner on Saturday went well and we had a showing of about 136 people. We have a new First Degree in our council. Brother Ryan Rasins. Since our last meeting in two issues of the Bay Beacon there have been pictures of Knight s activities and Knights participating in Pro-Life activities. It is good to see positive press regarding things our council is doing locally in the news. This has the potential to draw prospective knights to our council. We received a thank you note from The University of Florida, Division of Enrollment Management for the two scholarship checks they received from us for the award winners of the essay contest. Chaplain's Report: (Fr. Steve Voyt) Excused. Treasurer's Report: (Brother Ken Laird) As of August 7, 2018 the report is as follows: General Fund Total $5,901.33 Financial Secretary Report: (Ernie Martinez) No Report. PROGRAM DIRECTOR: (DGK Chuck Kuzma ) Reports from directors: Report on Service Program Committees: Membership Director: (PGK Steve Zajac) We will have our membership drive 18 and 19 August during the Parish Ministry Fair. We are shooting for a Initiation Degree this month, MTF. There will be a Initiation and 2 nd Degree in Crestview during September. Lastly, we need help in contacting 73 members that are on audit. We need to find out if they are still wanting to be part of the Council by September 1 st. If you are able to help, please, contact DGK Chuck Zuma. Church Director: (Brother Gregg Reese) Excused. Community Director: (PGK Ellis Boudreaux) Bingo is doing well, although, we could still use help in calling numbers. If there is anyone interested in Chairing Bingo, please, contact Brother John Foley. He will be able to give you the details and the training need to take on the job. Pasta has 136 people show up, which are much better numbers than the past. Keep on spreading the word about Pasta Dinner. Also, if you have any games or toys that you would like to get rid of, then, we could use them at Pasta Dinner for the kids. We will be able to store the toys and games in the garage at Church. Council Director: (Brother Mitch McClarin) Mitch McClarin. Culture of Life Director: (Brother Mike Flinn)

There was a Supreme Court decision stating that Faith based medical centers do not have to offer abortions. This is a good victory in protecting our religious rights. The abortion clinic in Pensacola still has not renewed their license, which is another victory for the unborn children. Family Director: (Brother Karl Eschmann) July Knight of the month is Matt French July Family of the month is Matt and Melisa French Youth Director: (Brother Brent Hobbs) No Report. Round Table Chairman: (Brother Bob Pabel) 15 July there were 9 people that showed up for the Rosary at St. Michael s. Bingo: (PGK John Foley) No report. Memorial Committee-Standing committee: (PGK Mark Williams) No Report. Media- Standing committee: (Brent Hobbs) No Report. Unfinished Business: Past Grand Knight Appreciation event is coming up on 20 August at 3 rd Planet Brewery. If you plan to go and have not rsvp d to Deputy Grand Knight Chuck Kuzma please do. You can do so in person tonight or rsvp by email to him at ckuzma116@cox.net. The Ministry Fair and Faith Formation is taking place on the 18 th and 19 th of August. It will take place in the Parish Life Center for approximately 1 hour after each Mass. Saturday Vigil at 5:00pm and Sunday at 08:00, 11:00 and 5:00 pm. Please sign up to man the Knight s ministry table for one of these times. If you sign up for the time frame after a Mass you are attending please remember that people go over there directly after Mass so go directly over there as soon as Mass ends. If you don't have a Family director or Community director, please put either GK or DGK in to fill the slot. Can always replace later. 3) Upcoming degree ceremonies: Admissions: August 2nd at Redeemer, 6pm. Sept 26th at Crestview Hall. Still need to schedule the Formation (2nd) Degrees. Knighthood (3rd) Degree at Holy Name on October 6th. Hoping to have State Chaplain Fr. Sal Pignato celebrate the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy (entire service is sung, Eucharist in both species) that morning. 4) Make sure you're using the new Faith in Action program guide. Columbian Award application is being rewritten to reflect changes. New required projects in order to meet goals. This new program was created to appeal to younger members and refocus the knights to work closer with the parish, something most councils have been struggling with. 5) Now is a great time to recruit. Military members moving into area all the time. Please schedule at least two recruiting drives by end of December. State goal is for every council to recruit one member this year. 6) Youth activities: need to plan dates for soccer challenge prior to District and Regional. September preferable for council level competition. 7) Did you know that the Diocese of Orlando is also responsible for the Moon, since the space craft that Neil Armstrong got to it from launched from Cape Canaveral?

8) There was a Daily News article about a group of priests saying the Latin Mass in Destin on Wednesday nights. FAMILY OF THE MONTH AND KNIGHT OF THE MONTH July 2018 Matt and Mellissa French

Brother Matt and his wife, Mellissa, are very active in Council and Church activities as leaders and participants. The end of the 2017-2018 fraternal year concluded his year as Grand Knight of Council 7667. We counted on him to keep the trains running and that he did and then some. He guided the council to its sixth consecutive STAR Council Award with a very aggressive recruitment program. He is at the forefront of our numerous charitable, church, community, and social council activities. He helped the project leaders of various activities such as the International Fall Festival, the annual Parish Picnic, and the Clergy Appreciation dinners to set up the hall and get everything, including the kitchen operation, ready for the onslaught of other workers and participants. After each general membership meeting he insured that refreshments are ready quickly so members can socialize and newer members can get to know the regulars better. Brother Matt used this social time to get to know members better and encourage them to participate more actively in council events. He and his team of officers identified a number of new people to put in a number of officer and director positions so as to refresh our leadership positions for the next fraternal year with a new Grand Knight. Brother Matt and Mellissa also periodically participate in the monthly Pasta Dinner program by preparing and serving the pasta dinners in the effort to fund raise for charitable church activities. The program provides members of the parish with an excellent dinner on Saturday nights at a very reasonable cost. Typically 80-100 people show up for the monthly dinners. Matt and Melissa have also helped with numerous other Council programs to support Handicapped Citizens. Two important Council activities he sponsored along with the Ladies Sodality Group was the Sunland picnic and Christmas Party. Sunland is a facility in Marianna, Fl. for mentally handicap citizens. For the summer picnic the council volunteers packed up food, grills snacks and drinks and hauled it to the Sunland facility to provide a bar-be-cue for 80 residence and staff. At Christmas the Council always hosts a Christmas party with food, games and a visit from Santa complete with gifts addressed to each resident. This past Christmas, weather factors cancelled the event in our Parish Hall, when the participants are normally bussed here for the party and gift exchange. Our Council brothers rapidly coordinated with the Sunland Staff to hold the event in the Marianna facility that very same week. He and the shared event Christ Our Redeemer POC, along with our designated Santa loaded up all the gifts, and had the party in the dining hall of the facility. It was a total success, and all had a good time. In other important activities, the council also on three separate occasions donated over 20 tons of food to 3 local food banks and charities through the food for families program. Our council s most successful program this past year was the Third Annual Father Daughter dance, and Brother Matt and his daughter Kate participated by donating food from his privately owned restaurant. This program blew away all our expectations and when the event occurred, 338 people attended the dance. This was open to the community, and 200 attendees were from outside our parish. Nearly 600 pounds of canned goods were collected and donated to local food banks from the event. The Dance was supported by 25 volunteers, including 15 knights from the council. The volunteers greeted the Fathers and Daughters, prepared and served the food, provided individual photos of each set of Fathers and Daughters, and cleaned the Family Life Center after the event. Knights processed pictures real-time, and everyone walked out of the Dance with professionally styled photos. Brother Matt greatly assisted the Lead Organizer for the annual Necrology Mass, which serves to remember and celebrate the past council knights who have died, and their families. Every widow was invited and sponsored by individual knights, who escort the widows to the Mass and the dinner following the Mass. Every year our Council also support the periodic Rummage Sales which provides for additional funding to sustain the Father Butler Family Life Center activities. The knights typically help in collecting large pieces of furniture from contributing households in the Parish with a trailer, catalog the pieces, assist in setting up the booths in the Life Center, help to load items to people s vehicles, and then clean up the Center after the event. Our knights also disposed of all the unsold items, trucking almost two tons of heavy obsolete furniture to the local dump to avoid storage of donated items that would probably never sell. Brother Matt was also the Vice-President of the Columbians, and he hosts all the meetings at his restaurant meeting room. He helped lead the effort in working with a committee to revise and update the By-Laws of the Columbians. He is very involved in the planning of a joint venture construction project to combine the funds of the parish and the Columbians to design and build a new facility which includes a new Council Building to perform activities such as the Bingo Program, Social Events, and meetings. As the Council s Grand Knight, he also led the efforts to also revise the Council By- Laws. He is an active member of the 4th Degree and the Honor Guard. He participated in numerous funeral events for passed knights, and was selected to be one of the Honor Guards for the installation Mass and ceremony for our new Diocese Bishop, Most Reverend William Wack. With respect for supporting the Holy Name of Jesus Parish activities, Matt is a Lector for the Sunday masses and is also a Eucharistic Minister and often serves as an usher. Melissa is also a Eucharistic Minister and very involved with her children in the Middle School Youth and Catholic Youth Ministries. Their son Zane is an usher, and a Lector. Their daughter Kate participates in the Middle School Youth (MSY) activities. Brother Matt and Melissa are full time owners of a prominent restaurant in Niceville, he is an active member of the Niceville Chamber of Commerce, and he does this job in concert with the time required to

volunteer for some very important K of C programs. Their restaurant was voted as the top small business of the year in the city of Niceville. Both Brother Matt and Melissa provide excellent dinners produced from their restaurant for a number of Council social events which this year included the annual Father Daughter Dance, the Clergy Appreciation Dinner, the Necrology Mass and Dinner, the Parish International Festival, the Christian Relief efforts to support Iraqi families, and the Wives Appreciation Dinner. Melissa also provides food for a number of MSY and CYM activities. Melissa Home Schools her daughter Kate and both of their children are involved in a number of outside activities. Zane is a Life Scout in the local Troop 157, and is a Senior Instructor Leader. He is currently pursuing the steps to become an Eagle Scout. He currently attends Niceville High School and is active with the Air Force Junior ROTC Program as a Drill Team and Honor Guard member. Kate spends her time learning and performing dance routines at the local Ballet Conservatory, and is a member of the Inspire Christian Dance Company. Brother Matt and Melissa demonstrate through hard work their Christian values and the K of C principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
