Page 2 Our Lady of Grace Dear parishioners: Why was it that some many people resonated with the movie Easy Rider, the only good movie that Peter Fonda starred in? What was it about this movie, which has become a kind of cult movie, that so attracted people? What did the movie represent? A restless young person, who took to his Hartley-Davison, to burn off that spirit of restlessness, in a search that led no-place. U-2 put words to this experience, I still haven t found what I m looking for. What was Easy Rider searching for? Let John Lennon of Beatles fame suggest an answer. Here is what he said when he was in school as a five year old and was asked What, I wanted to be when I grew up? Let me let John Lennon speak for himself. When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn t understand life. The psalmist speaks about this spirit of restlessness that is unique to every person that was ever born, varying in degrees from one person to the next. Like the deer that yearns for running streams so my soul is thirsting for you, my God. John Lennon s answer was correct. It was unfortunate that he spent much of his life drinking from the wrong wells. All of us are restless. All of us want to be happy. We drink from different wells in the restless pursuit of that happiness. I have referred to St. Augustine as the Easy Rider of the 5th century. He was a very restless young man, who drank from many different wells for the first thirty five years of his life. He came from a family in which his mom was a devout believer and his dad was not. Both had an influence on his early life. When he went away to College, he lived with a girlfriend with whom he had an out-of-wedlock child. His life continued in that vein until he came under the influence of Ambrose, Bishop of Milan. He was in his mid-30s when he decided to become a Christian, which helped to dissipate some of his intense restless spirit, which he expressed in his oft-quoted line, Our hearts are made for God and, they cannot rest until they rest in him. Listen to Jesus invitation in Matthew s Gospel: Come to me all you who find life weary and burdensome and I will give you rest and your souls will find rest. (Mt 12: 29-30). In his core teaching in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives the restless heart in pursuit of happiness a Way-of-Happiness, beginning with the words, Happy are the poor in spirit Happy are the pure of heart It is for this reason that I extend an invitation to Come and See what Jesus has to offer in the RCIA, which is an introduction to the Good news of Jesus as we understand and practice it as Catholics. It begins, Monday, Sept. 24 th, at 7 p.m. in the Conference room of the Grogan Center. Fr. Nick.

She sits up straight now to accommodate her internal organs, which have moved into their final place in her little body. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Don't forget to pray for your baby. Abortion is legal through all 9 months & her mom might still feel pressure to abort. ROSARY FOR LIFE. The Knights of Columbus will pray the Life Rosary on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 PM in the church. This Rosary contains powerful petitions to end abortion and heal hearts. Respect Life Couple Dick and Marie Carlson will lead the Rosary. All parishioners are invited.
