MAY 2017 Juan (Fred) Rivera advertising hot, roasted corn at the Freds Corn Booth during Springfest. Thanks to the dozens of Knights who worked at the parish s annual festival. CALENDAR May 26, 7 p.m. Spanish First Degree Exemplification at the Benish Center. May 27 second and third degree exemplification at St. Louis Catholic Church & School 7601 Burnet Road, Austin. (For more information see Grand Knight s report below.) June 19 KC Knights Night at Dell Diamond. Contact Brother David Garcia: dvgarcia02@yahoo.com GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT Brother Knights and families, thank you for all the hard work and support during April. As we approach the end of the Fraternal Year, we find ourselves needing a minimum of eleven new Brother Knights to meet our goal of becoming a Star Council. We can still achieve Star Council if we make a concerted effort to bring in new members. Many Catholic men are just waiting for an invitation. Ask the men you know at church if they would like to join. If you don't have a form 100, just get their name and contact information (phone and/or email address) and get it to John Olenoski, Membership Director, or myself. We also have numerous First Degree members who need to obtain their Second and Third Degree. There will be a major degree exemplification on May 27, 2017 at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church & School located at 7601 Burnet Road, Austin Texas 78757. Registration begins at 7 a.m. in Wozniak Hall (north side of campus). Mass will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast following. The degree programs start at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served lunch after the Third Degree Ceremony. On another note, we will have officer elections for the new fraternal year on Thursday, June 2 at our regularly scheduled business meeting. Finally, on Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. we will have our first ever Spanish 1 st Degree Exemplification in the Benish Center. What a May 2017! John Hicks (512) 657-3234 bigcheese10@austinrr.com. SATURDAY MORNING PRAYER MINISTRY. Our Deacons are leading a morning prayer group Saturdays at 7 a.m. in the Eucharistic Chapel. It lasts about 30 minutes. Please join Brother Knights for this fulfilling ministry. Page 1 of 5

C ounc il 760 0, S t. Mar garet Mar y, Ceda r P ark, TX DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT We are well into Spring now. The School year is winding down and May is always hectic with graduations. A big thank you Mike Uhlein and crew for set up and take down at SpringFest. Thanks you to all those who helped out in some way as well. It is the church's biggest fundraiser of the year. Please show up for elections at both the council and assembly meetings in June. It is never too late to run for an office. We will have three big events at our parish this month. First is the 1,000 plus Hail Marys to be led by the Legion of Mary and Guadalupanos. Second is the Diaconate Ceremony to be held on May 20 at 10:30 a.m. Third is the Spanish First Degree to be held on the 25th at 7:30 p.m. at the Benish center. Please try to attend this ceremony even if you have already been to one. We want to show our support of our new brother knights, and there will be others attending from outside our council. May is always a crazy month. Hope you have time to attend one or more of these events. Till the next time our eyes greet each other. Leo. Leo Saenz. 512.831.8516. leosaenz@gmail.com. Our regular member meetings are on the first Thursday of each month at 7:15p.m. in the Benish Center. KC 4th Degree Assembly 3688 (St. Rafael Guizar Valencia) meets at the Benish Center the second Thursday of each month at 7:15 p.m., beginning with the Rosary. YOUTH ACTIVITIES JamesPoche james.poche@gmail.com Pro-Life Mass. Plan to attend the 6:30 p.m. Mass on the first Thursday of each month. This mass is sponsored by our council and is dedicated to Greater Respect for Life. FAMILY OF THE MONTH Brother Dave and Jo Lyn Kohutek. Dave has been a Knight since June 11, 1996. He and Jo Lyn are longtime, active members of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Brother Dave has severed as Inside Guard, Membership Director and Grand Knight of our council. He has also served as our District Deputy in previous years. He currently serves as sound board minister. He trains volunteers to run the sound board for all masses and he mans the sound board during our 5 p.m. Masses. Dave also runs the sound board during special occasions throughout the year such as the healing retreats and recently from 5 p.m. to 7a.m. for the Page 2 of 5

Vista Esparto Santos. And Dave provides security for our parish 24/7 every other week. We all know of Jo Lyn s radiant smile and beautiful voice as she sings in the choir during 5 p.m. Masses on Saturdays. She is also responsible to see that the alter clothes are ready for masses every two months. Brother Dave and Jo Lyn Kohutek have participated in other various activities including fish fries and Springfest. Jo Lyn has and continues to attend morning mass every day. Please congratulate Brother Dave and Jo Lyn Kohutek as our Family of the Month for May 2017. KNIGHT OF THE MONTH PRO-LIFE INFORMATION Don t forget to work on your ACE Wings. The Texas KofC State Council has developed this award for all Texas Knights. Attend five events in one 12 month period and you qualify for life. There are many fine opportunities. To obtain the form go to the Texas State Council web site, www.tkofc.org This brings up the Home Page. Go down to the bottom. At the right side there is a column that shows Downloads. Click on Texas State Council forms. New Screen. Six forms down see Pro-Life Wings Application. This will pull up the form to submit. The form is in Adobe format but you can print it. When you have your five events completed, contact Bob Hogan 512-267-4789 or email bobhogantx@gmail.com LECTOR'S REPORT Brian Hill. hillbri@austin.rr.com CHANCELLOR'S REPORT Chuck Ramos ramoscr@att.net 512-565-0835 COUNCIL DIRECTOR Titi Girma titi.girma@outlook.com Brother Kenneth Varga has been a Knight since March 16, 2000. He has served as a Eucharistic Minister and been involved and assisted the Knights with SpringFest. At our Lenten Fish Fries this season Ken had perfect attendance, setting up and taking down folding tables and mopping floors, among other, numerous activities. Ken also helps with Christmas decorations every year. Please congratulate Brother Ken Varga as our Knight of the Month for May. ADVOCATE Fellow Brothers, I want to thank you all for your support. It has been an honor serving as your worthy advocate and a special privilege to be a part of this council since 1998. As most of you know, I will be moving to Katy, Texas in June as the house goes up for sale in two weeks. I am going to miss all of you that supported me through both good and rough times. My status as a Fourth Degree will remain here and my new parish as a Knight will be sometime in September at Immaculate Conception in Sealy, Texas. I will be back for events to cook and Page 3 of 5

help out throughout the year. James Poche and Walter Yucikas are also helping me sometime down the line moving items to the Garage Sale. They will also be my compadres when I come back to town. I loved being a part of a brotherhood that goes beyond words as we all are called to the table. Nothing is better than to love and give to others in need. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers and I'll still be on the newsletter mailing list! Vivat Jesus, 512-217-7279 Tom Ciapi topgoldcats@gmail.com FINANCIAL SECRETARY REPORT I'm pleased to announce that I'm officially your Financial Secretary so you'll start seeing my name on the forms instead of Jeff's. Thanks Jeff for running such a tight ship and making the transition smooth and painless. One of the biggest FS tasks is tracking our path to Star Council. It's almost the end of the year and we're nearly out of time to earn that status. There are two categories that stand out: New membership and current insurance members. Congratulations to the council for meeting our goal of net, plus six, insurance members. As for new members, we are almost half way to our quota of 15. Things are looking good though. Come out and support the exemplification on May 26 when our new brothers will pull us over the line. We have 17 brothers who are outstanding on dues. If you, or someone you know, doesn't have their 2017 membership card and think dues are current, or if you need assistance paying your dues, please reach out to me and we'll take care of it. It is specifically designed for youth who are at least juniors in high school through young adults in their 20s. Come experience a fresh, faith-filled atmosphere away from home, school, and work. This is a great way for young adults to meet other dedicated Catholics that might be moving out to attend college for the first time.
