MBS High School Youth Bonfire Sunday, February 17, 2019 5:00-8.00 p.m. High school students are invited to come out and join the MBS Youth Group and Peer Team for our annual Bonfire Event. The event "FIRE OF FAITH" is an opportunity to enjoy and get to know other high school members of your parish family. There will be great food, door prizes, and activities. RSVP the Church Office (225) 752-6230 if you plan to attend MBS 2019 MISSION APPEAL March 2-3, 2019 The Propagation of the Faith office of our diocese has invited the Diocese of Kumbakonam, India to speak to us about their missionary activities and challenges. Accordingly, Rev. M. S. Selva Raj will be speaking at Most Blessed Sacrament during all the Masses on the weekend of March 2-3, 2019. This diocese, started in 1899 in the State of Tamil Nadu, India, has an area of 7823 sq. km and a Catholic population of 213,000 (6% of the population). It is served by 210 diocesan and 63 religious priests, 588 nuns and 15 trained lay catechists. The diocese has certain concrete and meaningful goals for a New Evangelization in the III millennium which are: 1) Establishing 10 more new parishes, each with a new church and rectory. At present, this diocese is 93 parishes and 618 mission-stations. Many of the missions are so large that they have to be made independent parishes with a resident priest. Most Catholics have no vehicle to travel to the main parish church for Sunday Mass. The people are unable to give financial support for such pressing pastoral projects. 2) Providing the 126 Catholic schools in the missions with better facilities, tools, children s Bibles, a projector, catechetical materials in the form of DVDs, pictures, text-books and workbooks to improve the quality of religious and faith formation of Catholic and Non- Catholic students in mission schools. 3) Enabling 485 nuns and 2,155 Catholic teachers in charge of catechetical, educational, medical and social ministries throughout this rural diocese. The need to educate the children in the Catholic faith and to help the people, particularly the poor, for their integral development. 4) Providing buildings and infrastructure to our mission schools in villages since education in a main means of evangelization while the government pays most of the teachers. 5) Education of more young men in the seminary since the diocese abounds in vocation to priesthood and religious life so that some can be sent as missionaries to missions abroad where there is a shortage of priests. Note: Every year, an average of 50 young men and women go out of the diocese to other missions in India and abroad to serve God and His people as missionaries. 6) Education of 1000 very poor or orphan children from poor families every year by providing them with free board & lodge. All the above mission projects are 80% dependent on Mission Cooperative Appeal funds. The diocese is trying to materialize these missionary goals, depending on the availability of funds. The mission and spiritual prospects of Kumbadonam diocese are bright but its needs are many and pressing. Sixty percent of its Catholics are depressingly poor. Therefore, your fervent prayers and generous help are earnestly requested for building the Kingdom of God, in and through the diocese of Kumbakonam, India.

After every Good Friday there is always an Easter Sunday. With an Irish accent these words were often spoken by Father Mike Collins. We wish to thank all those who had "pieces" of the process. We would like to thank Olivia LeBlanc and Bryan McClinton, who led our monthly classes and coordinated our team of college and high school Peer Ministers. We owe a debt of gratitude to all of our Peer Ministers, for spending months of preparation for our annual retreat. Their faith sharing was invaluable to our process. Thank you also to our volunteers, Judy Bayhi, Kirbye Hollier, Janet Lamabe and Lisa Lloyd, for their help with all our Confirmation class events. We are grateful to our Parents and Sponsors who have journeyed with our Candidates to this celebration. Their guidance, companionship and commitment to the Candidates on their faith journey is a tremendous Christian witness. Jesus implores us to feed the hungry, and both our MBS Men s Club and the Knights of Columbus assist us each year with meals during our Confirmation process. Also, thank you to the Knights, for the monthly meals for our PSR High School classes. Finally, we are grateful to the Candidates for sharing their lives and faith with us as we live out our adult responsibilities to build God's kingdom.
