Volume 19, Issue 10 April 2017 Wishing all of my Brother Knights and their families a most joyous Easter Season Peter or Judas? When we read the scriptures regarding the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus there are two characters who play an important part, Peter and Judas. Both knew the Lord, both saw the miracles He performed, both heard Him preach, both turned their back on Him, and both immediately regretted having done so. Judas tuned Jesus over to the authorities thus enabling what was written to continue on course; but he didn t have to. Judas had free will. It was not preordained that Judas should be the conduit through which Jesus would suffer. He chose to do so of his own free will. In much the same way, Peter denied knowing Jesus, not once but three times. He, too, chose to do so. So, what is the difference between these two men? I believe the difference is faith. Peter could have easily despaired and hung himself that night as did Judas. But Peter hung in there, through Good Friday and was able to experience the Resurrection on Sunday. Judas could not hang in there, could not believe that he could have been forgiven, could not see beyond wrong he had done, could not make it through Good Friday and, thus, did not experience the Resurrection. There s a lesson here, I think. Through our Good Fridays we can either hang in there, having faith enough to know that the suffering, pain, and death are not the end. We can have faith knowing that the resurrection always follows the Good Friday or we can despair, give up, lose what little faith we had, and never truly experience the Resurrection. I guess what I m trying to say here is we have to hold fast knowing that pain and suffering and death are not the end; That there will be a Resurrection if only we wait for it. For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late. (Hb 3:3) Wishing you a glorious Resurrection.
Volume 19, Issue 10, April 2017 (Mary Queen of Angels 12384) page 2 Dear Brother Knights, Our entire Faith centers around the Death and Resurrection, the Ascension and Pouring out of the Spirit we call the Paschal Mystery. We have a loving God Who would not leave us in our sinfulness and rebellion, but Who pursued His people when they followed false gods, brought them out of slavery and exile, and finally sent, at the end of a long line of prophets, His own Son to be our Redeemer. From our Chaplain So tremendous an even is Easter that we spend 40 days preparing to celebrate it, and in particular the renewal of our Baptismal Promises, and we celebrate Easter for 50 days, a week of weeks. Additionally, all through the year, whether it is July or Christmastide or Fall, every Sunday is a little Easter (although there is nothing little about Easter). May the New Life this Season brings us show itself in your personal life and the life of our Council and Order. May Mary, Queen of Angels, keep you and all those you love close to her heart.
