PARISHIONERS SPEAK: The 3 LEGGED STOOL LEG #1 Family Meals: Supper is a struggle for us as well; I try hard not to plan any school or after-school activities around it. If we do have some sort of after-school activity that effects our mealtime together, I try to limit that to once or twice a week. Weekends and Sundays are a must that we eat together; I try to follow the example of Sunday meals that my mom would do: she would make it a little bit more formal with a table cloth and the nice dishes. We would have a steak or nice chicken dinner. She would focus on politics and religion which I hated--but my other siblings loved it. It was a way to really try to learn about the outside world and our culture and also each other. We would also do dessert on Sundays, which we didn't do on any other day. So I try to do this as well--can't say we discuss politics or religion but more about our day. I try to keep it positive but also try to focus on politeness and table manners since I'm not always around during the week to do this. We don't do a table cloth all the time, but I do try to make the dinner planning a little more "yummy"with more sides to choose from and a dessert at the end of the meal. The kids have come to learn to love Sunday dinners! Family Meals + Family Prayer + Sunday Mass = Stronger Families An opportunity for Family Prayer: On a Walk and a Prayer II Let s come together as a parish for Family Prayer: Saturday Oct. 18 th will be a morning of prayer for St. Bernard School and Ascension and St. Bernard Parishes. The Blessed Sacrament we will expose at St. Bernard at 8:00am and Ascension at 8:30am. Adoration will occur at both parishes as I walk from Ascension to St. Bernard praying the 150 Psalms. Adoration at both parishes will conclude at noon. I hope many of you will come to our parishes to pray, even if for 5 minutes. It will be silent personal prayer done as parish families. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us! Fr. Gregory CALENDAR FOR ASCENSION AND ST. The Liturgical Reading of the Gospel of Mark Theology Day at Saint John s School of Theology Seminary. Can the Gospel of Mark be read from inside the Brompton Oratory, a story of symbolism and complexity, not so much about individual existential faith but communal sacrament and mystery; a story not about Jesus so much as the Body of Christ? Join Dr. Charles Bobertz, professor of New Testament and Patristics at Saint John s School of Theology- Seminary and the undergraduate Department of Theology of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John s University, as he provides a new interpretation for the Gospel of Mark. Family Prayer: Rosary In the month of October join fellow parishioners in praying the rosary 25 minutes before each Sunday (Saturday evening also) Mass.
