ARCHBISHOP CUPICH COMING TO ST. MARY The Most Reverend Blase Cupich will be installed as the Ninth Archbishop of Chicago on November 18. I am pleased to share with you that Archbishop Cupich has accepted my invitation to come to St. Mary. He will offer Mass here on Thanksgiving Day, November 27 at 9:00am. After Mass, Archbishop Cupich will join us for a reception in the Upper Grade Center Gym. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us as we welcome our new shepherd together. ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM, O LORD The Church observes the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed on November 2. During the liturgies this weekend, we pray for the repose of the souls of those who have passed away. At the Noon Mass, we will particularly remember those who have died in the past year. Father Brendan and I will bless the graves of those buried in St. Mary Cemetery at 3:00pm on Sunday. Those who would like to pray together will meet at the crucifix in the middle of the cemetery. COME, HOLY SPIRIT Please pray to the Holy Spirit and ask that the Spirit's gifts be given to the 40 high school students making the Kairos retreat this weekend. Also ask the Holy Spirit to bless Alli Harvey, Diane Kennedy, and the 14 students facilitating the retreat. The Kairos retreat is four days long and based on the four weeks of St. Ignatius Loyola's Spiritual Exercises. Thanks to your generous support, we are able to offer expanded opportunities for retreats and mission trips for the young people of our community. In many ways, the youth are the hope of the Church; please pray for them. VETERANS DAY Our new Associate Pastor, Father Ron Stake, is a retired chaplain with the United State Navy. Father Stake will preside and preach at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, November 9. During the liturgy, we will pray for all the veterans of our armed services. Active members of the armed services are encouraged to come to the 10:30am Mass in uniform. Also, we would like to update our list of active service men and women who are relatives of parishioners. If you would like to add a name to our prayer list, please contact Lenette Sadek of our staff. ADVENT Father Jim McIlhone, a priest and Biblical scholar, will return to St. Mary on Tuesday, November 11. Father McIlhone will speak about the scripture readings that we will be hearing on the four Sundays of Advent this year. Please join us in the Parish Center Conference Room at 7:00pm on November 11. YOUR NAME HERE St. Mary's produces a written bulletin each week that is read by over 1,000 people. Religious Education Program Values and Moral Decision-Making was the topic presented and discussed by Father Michael Knotek to all parish 8th grade Confirmation candidates, their parents and sponsors on Monday, October 20. Father Knotek designed this program to engage and enhance communication between parents, sponsors and their children as well as offer an opportunity for teens and adults to share their experiences and faith. The evening was very well attended as adults and students alike were drawn into the conversation that included current events and situations in which our faith and conscience will help make correct choices. Father Knotek received excellent feedback from participants in the evening who found the presentation valuable.
