He is often shown wearing armor, in the act of slaying Satan. And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him (Revelations 12:7-9). The Catholic tradition assigns to St. Michael several offices: to continue to wage battle against Satan and the other fallen angels; to save the souls of the faithful from the power of Satan, especially at the hour of death; to be the special Patron to Our Lord for judgment. St. Michael is the Patron Saint of grocers and the guardian of all mountainous places. He is also held to be the special guardian Angel of the Pope and of the Blessed Sacrament. St. Michael has been invoked for protection on various occasions. For example, a great plague struck Rome in 590. Pope Saint Gregory the Great led a procession through the streets as an act of penance in atonement of sins. At the tomb of Hadrian (now Castle San Angelo near St. Peter s Basilica), St. Michael appeared and sheathed his sword, indicating the end of the plague. The Pope later built a chapel at the top of the tomb and to this day a large statue honoring St. Michael rests there. Wednesday is a Solemn Holyday. The liturgy will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m.

The following guidelines have been in place to help ensure fairness. 1. One weekend liturgy per family. 2. One weekend liturgy per deceased loved one. 3. If openings exist three weeks prior to a date, additional requests can be secured. 4. Multiple reservations can be made for weekday services. (During the week we average between eight and twelve people, with someone typically able to lead the singing.) The recommended liturgy stipend established by the Diocese remains at $10. Liturgies on hand are currently being persolved at 3-4 a year (on a rotating basis). Keep in mind that when a person dies and liturgies are offered, family members are bound to have those services rendered by submitting a list in a timely manner to Father. Church Choir We are starting our choir up again after a brief absence. (Teresa Henderson, our director for the past two years moved to Detroit over the summer.) Theresa Plishka will be taking over. She is from Scranton, Pennsylvania but has lived in the Cleveland area for the past few years. She has sung with a number of Byzantine choirs and brings a great wealth of knowledge and musical experience to the position. There's a good chance you'll recognize her because she has attended St. Joe's on occasion. If her name sounds familiar it's because she s the younger sister of Father Richard Plishka, who served a while as Parochial Vicar here. The first practice will be next Sunday (November 12) in the choir loft from 9:00-10:15 a.m. All interested persons are invited to join. We are hosting the next A.C.E. (Adult Catholic Education program on November 9, 7:00, in the Activity Center. Sister Barbara Jean Mihalchick will speak on Theosis: The Journey to Union with God. It boosts your immune system and decreases blood pressure. It may even add two to three years to your life. You receive social support and look out for one another. When you are sick, in the hospital or encountering a difficult life event, others may bring you dinners or help with errands or cleaning. Small group weekly meetings lift spirits leading to better health. This extra affection and support help to decrease smoking, drinking and drug use. So, the practice of going to church may be more beneficial than you thought!
PARISH INFORMATION First, order your priorities 1 2 3 4 The 10 Commandments to Honor thy Spouse By Laura M. and Matthew Devick God First Daily prayer and frequent reception of the sacraments. If we re not in touch with our Creator, we ll be out of touch with each other. Marriage, Second God has given us this vocation and this particular person to live it out with! The 3way we schedule our day-to-day life should reflect this reality. Kids, Third (Not first or second) We ve found that we often mix this one up and so have others, with sometimes disastrous results, including divorce. There is no parenting without marriage-ing! Job, extended family, community, Fourth Everything else comes next. Yes, even your mother and mother-in-law. Even your (very) important job. Even your parish! Next come the practical commandments 5 6 7 8 9 10 Learn how best to love each other We have enjoyed reading books such as The Temperament God Gave You/Your Spouse, The Five Love Languages and Intimate Graces: How Practicing the Works of Mercy Brings Out the Best in Marriage and even the Myers-Briggs personality test. Thank You, please, I m sorry, and I love you Pope Francis said these four phrases should guide marriage and family life and we should say them often. Remember your origin story and relive it through dates With four boys, we ve learned our share of superhero origin stories. A super marriage needs to celebrate its own story and re-live that story through dates that are fun! Look to where you re going and make plans to get there Within your parish and community, seek out marriage-building opportunities such as retreats and ongoing accountability groups. These groups can keep you accountable to the high calling of marriage. Personal and Couple prayer daily It is so important to pray as a couple. Practice NFP Perhaps the best way to say, I love, respect and honor all of you, is through practicing natural family planning in your marriage. It accepts the total gift of the other and celebrates the way God created us and created marriage.
