COUNCIL LIFE Pope Pius XII Council 4422, 18th District St. Raphael s Parish NOVEMBER 2017 www.kofc4422.org popepius12@gmail.com GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE Brothers, November is a month of reflection and thanksgiving. From the onset of the month, we celebrate All Saints Day (November 1 st ). The Church teaches us that we celebrate those named Saints canonized by the Church for their good deeds done during their earthly lives and those miracles preformed in their names. But what about us, can we ever become a Saint? Although no one can be certain, if you love God with all your heart and mind, follow the teaching of the Church, treat you re your neighbors as yourself and live your life as a Knight of Columbus, you have a better shot to reaping the benefits in heaven then most. All Souls Day is also celebrated on November 2 nd. Traditionally, we celebrate those who we loved and have passed away in the past year. Here at St. Raphael we remembered approximately 165 parishioners, friends, and loved ones including my Father-in Law (Charlie Reass), Robert Holz Sr.(Fr. Holz s father) and four of our brother Knights (John Psinakis the last of our Charter Members, Thomas Jost, Lou Hollweg, and Sir Knight Al Lusardi). God of all consolation, You turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life. Show your compassion to Your people in sorrow. Rest in peace brothers! We also honor all that have and continue to service served both our nation and for our freedoms on November 11 th (Veterans Day). Although I will defend any ones rights to peaceful protest, I for one still stand and salute for both the Pledge of Allegiance and our National Anthem. When you see a Veteran, please thank him or her for their service and fly your flag in support of all that s right. The end of this month also brings us one more holiday - Thanksgiving (November 23rd), where we celebrate what God has giving us (the bounty of life). Both Louise and I hope only the best for you and your families now and throughout this holiday season. Please keep all those less fortunate then yourselves, who have been touch by war and violence, and nature and manmade disasters. Pray for them all. And always remember: Don t be a Knight in just name, Be a Knight in your daily activities! Vivat Jesus Al Clancy Grand Knight
