St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 2 From the Pastor The parishioners of St. Francis extend our sympathies and condolences to the families of Cecilia Habing and Billie Pals. Both ladies were buried from our church this past week. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Our Staff Study Day was Tuesday. We spent the day studying the book Rebuilt by White and Corcoran. We discussed many aspects of our life here at St. Francis in terms of a community of faith. We thank the Brummer family for allowing us to use their Prairie Training Center, east of town. Please pray for our seniors on retreat this weekend, 18-19 March. We pray their hearts will be open to the grace of the Holy Spirit especially as they prepare for a significant transition in their life with graduation this spring. We congratulate St. Anthony s Parish in Effingham for their basketball team s achievement with the 1 st place trophy in basketball last weekend. I know many of us watched the game, or parts of it, on television. An over-time win is usually very exciting, and it was! If you have tried to interest people to run for any office in a parish organization, you know how many phone calls you have to make, and people you must contact, before finding people willing to commit. I don t know if it were ever the case that people actually wanted to be in an office. This Thursday the new members of our parish council will meet, and officers will be elected. The new members are Donna Niemerg, Toby McMahon and Mark Willenborg. I thank the new members for stepping up to the plate. Retiring members are Sandy Gillespie, Dan Beckman and Tony Pals. The parish is grateful to you for serving the parish so faithfully. Why not enjoy a delicious breakfast at Bishop this Sunday! Speaking of food, the Knights of Columbus have an excellent fish/shrimp dinner every Friday evening in Lent. You won t regret coming to your own KC Hall! Remember that this Tuesday is our Eucharistic Day for Life. We will have exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from after the 7:55 Mass until Benediction at 5:45 pm. Come and pray for a half hour or an hour - whatever your schedule allows. You will not regret it. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE EUCHARISTIC DAY OF PRAYER, TUESDAY, MARCH 21st - Please come to pray to our Eucharistic Lord for the end of the evil disregard for human life in our world. Eucharistic Exposition will begin following the 7:55 AM mass, with Benediction at 5:45 PM. Volunteers are needed to please commit to a half hour or hour of prayer in church on the sign-up sheets at the church entrances. If you are home bound or unable to come, your prayers are needed also in whatever way you are able. Prolife prayer guides are at church entrances, and daily devotionals are available at www.40daysforlife.com. Thank you for your prayers and sacrifices! Prayer to the Blessed Sacrament Lord Jesus, I firmly believe that the Blessed Sacrament is Your very Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. Senses cannot grasp this marvel. Faith, however, reaches beyond what the eyes can see and assures us that You are present. We can also see You, O Lord, in the children in the womb. In a day when so many have forgotten these children, and dismiss them as less valuable than those who are born, grant that we may grow all the more convinced of their dignity and worth. Then grant, O Lord, that we may act accordingly. Amen. 2017 The Year of Grace People of the Hebrews: so thirsty, they grumbled to the very God who gave them quail and manna. The Woman at the Well: so thirsty, she missed the living water at least, at first. And what does God do? Because of faithful care and covenantal love, water gushes from the rock, living water gushes from Christ. For what do I thirst? How can God slake that thirst? What mercy work can I do to give drink to the thirsty? Mass Intentions Monday, March 20, 6:15: Betty Koeberlein Schottman Monday, March 20, 12:10: Rose Waldhoff death anniv.
