Psalm To you, O Lord, I lift my soul (Psalm 25). Second Reading Abound in love for one another and for all (1 Thessalonians 3:12 4:2). Gospel Stand erect and raise your heads; your redemption is at hand (Luke 21:25-28, 34-36). THE PROMISE OF JUSTICE We are in fairly good company when we ask God for justice. Often enough we hear and agree with the lament of the people of Israel asking God why the wicked prosper. However, when we call out for justice, we usually want someone to get his or her comeuppance. God s justice is something other than this, of course. God s justice comprises a wonderful rightness between God and humankind. Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a time when a just one will sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah s time. Israel s kings held the promise of God s fidelity, but it was difficult to see how God s promise could be realized through them. Nevertheless, Jeremiah lifts his voice and announces that the Promised One will come. Luke s Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encouragement. And so Advent begins with a promise. Nasz Pan Jezus Chrystus przyszedł, aby pokazać nam Miłość i my odkrywamy naszą rolę jako mężczyźni, którzy dostrzegają potrzeby inne niż poszukiwanie mocy i przywilejów (Łk 22,25). Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa to katolicka sieć mężczyzn. Grupę spotkanie w naszej parafii odbędzie się w pierwsze czwartek mieszanca, o 7:00 pm. Serdecznie zapraszamy. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The GIFT of FORGIVENESS An Afternoon Gathering of Single-Again Men & Women When: Where: December 8, 2018 (1:00-4:00 p.m.) 12:45 p.m. check-in, ending with a 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass Blanchette Catholic Center Diocese of Joliet 16555 Weber Rd. This month St. John Vianney will conduct its Baby Bottles for Life campaign to benefit, support and educate pregnant women facing crisis or unintended pregnancies. The funds collected through the Bottles for Life campaign support the programs and services of the Waterleaf Medical Clinic and Education and Resource Center located in Aurora. Waterleaf provides practical help; pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STD testing and treatment as well as continuing education and support for women in our community who would otherwise be at risk for choosing abortion. Last year with the support of churches like St. John Vianney, Waterleaf served 846 clients, performed 540 pregnancy tests, 404 ultrasounds and rescued 83 babies. You can pick up your baby bottle from our pro-life tree beginning the weekend of December 15/16, and fill with spare change or whatever donation you prefer. Bottles can then be returned to the parish by the weekend of January 5/6, 2019. Please make any check donations payable to Waterleaf. Your support is greatly appreciated. For more information call us at 630-701-6270 or visit Waterleaf on the web at www.onechoiceonelife.org.
