Please join members of the parish in a Holy Hour from 3:00-4:00pm every Friday, for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Mercy Stations of the Cross during Eucharistic Adoration. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is also prayed every morning after the 8:30 am Mass, Monday through Thursday during the school year and additionally after the 8:30 am Mass on Friday mornings during the summer months. If you cannot be present to pray with us at the parish at these times, simply join in prayer with us spiritually by briefly thinking of our Lord s Passion & Death every day at 3:00pm and especially on Friday s at 3:00pm by simply praying the words, Jesus I Trust in You. Donna Marie Stanislaw EUCHARISTIC ADORATION When we participate in the practice of perpetual adoration, we put ourselves in direct contact with the God of presence and mission. Our action as adorers pales in the face of God s action of infusing us with the spirit of the Devine Being. We are changed dramatically just by being in this living presence and being open to the action of our gracious God. We become instruments of God s peace, mercy, joy, consolation, or courage. The more we celebrate the small miracles of daily life, the more we realize the very personal action of God in our daily living. (from Eucharistic Adoration Reflections in the Franciscan Tradition, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration) This year, for the Christmas and New Year Holidays, the Adoration schedule will be unaffected as both fall on a Monday. Please prayerfully consider committing to a weekly hour with Our Lord. We are in need of committed Adorers for the following hours: Wednesdays 3pm-4pm; Thursdays noon-1pm, 2pm-3pm, 3pm- 4pm, 4pm-5pm, 5pm-6pm, 10pm-11pm; Fridays 4am-5am, 4pm- 5pm, 7pm-8pm, 8pm-9pm, 9pm-10pm, and Saturdays 3am-4am, 5am-6am. These will entertain, engage, and inspire you with the beauty and wonder of your faith. Society of St. Vincent de Paul Talk about AMAZING! This photo doesn t even begin to tell the story of the MOUNTAINS of food the students and staff at St. John School contributed to our pantry! During their Thanksgiving food drive, an astonishing 4,885 cans of vegetables, fruits, canned meats and meals were collected. The event surprised our Pantry coordinator and caused us to (happily) scare up additional storage space! We are humbled by the outpouring of support (and amused to learn of the feverish competition between classes). We understand that the up-and-coming First Communicants of the Second Grade class collected the greatest number of food items. The Seventh Grade students were hot on their heels and also gave in copious quantity. You can access programs, videos, books, movies and CD's by logging on to www.formed.org. 1. Please like us on https://www.facebook.com/sje1.org/ Knight s Roundtable Knights of Columbus Council 5561 www.vakofc5561.org Third Sunday of Advent As Knights of Columbus, what can we do to preserve the God-given gift of religious freedom, endangered abroad and threatened at home? First, we must continue to help brother Knights and their families to understand what the Church teaches about human dignity, truth and religious freedom, especially in the Declaration on Religious Freedom of Second Vatican Council. Second, we must lead our brother Knights and their families in praying for those in many parts of the world who are persecuted for their faith for a renewed spirit of vigilance in our country and in many liberal democracies where fundamental freedoms are slipping through our fingers. Third, our elected officials need to hear from us. And finally, we defend our freedoms by exercising our freedoms, by worshipping, by educating, by engaging in works of charity, (and) by making our voices heard in the public square. Proceeds will go to ST. John s Religious Ed. Oplatek is derived from the Latin word oblatum, meaning gift or oblation, and has a Eucharistic connotation. Oplatki (oh-pwaht-kee) are authentic traditional Christmas wafers popular in Polish, Slovak and Lithuanian cultures. Oplatki are baked from pure wheat flour and water and they are embossed with Nativity scenes. The tradition of sharing the Oplatek on Christmas Eve is a wonderful opportunity for families to gather and reconcile any differences, and to remember loved ones who have gone before them.
