One hallmark of Franciscan spirituality, also epitomized by Pope Francis, is to extend Welcome to All. On behalf of the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular, the staff and parish family of Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace we extend this heartfelt invitation: No matter what your present or past status in the Catholic Church. No matter what your current family or marital situation. No matter what your past or present religious affiliation. No matter what your personal history, age, background, race, or color. You are invited, welcomed, accepted and loved here at Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace. In the words of Saint Francis of Assisi: May the Lord give you peace. Matrimony: Arrangements should be made 6 months in advance by contacting our Wedding Coordinator. Participation in a marriage preparation program is required. If you are visiting and interested in registering, we kindly ask that you pick up a blue registration form found in the church or visit our Parish Office or website and complete all of the information asked and either return it to our Office or drop it in the collection basket. Membership is strongly encouraged for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, and Marriage. Registration is also required before the parish can issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered member of at least six months before a certificate will be given. Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 2019 1920 + 2020 Our Legacy of Grace November 20, 1920 Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace was elevated to Parish status, becoming part of the Diocese of Saint Augustine. In 1968, Saint Mary was transferred to the newly formed Diocese of Saint Petersburg. On November 20, 2020 we will celebrate our parish s 100 th anniversary. Stay tuned for announcements regarding our parish celebrations. Until then did you know that In the late 19 th century, the tiny Catholic settlement in the Saint Petersburg area became a mission of the Jesuit-operated Sacred Heart Church in Downtown Tampa. The first known and recorded Mass in Saint Petersburg was celebrated at the Hotel San Jose in the Driftwood area on September 11, 1892. During the next few years the area was served by Jesuit missionaries who came across Tampa Bay by boat on an intermittent basis. Catholic families met at private homes and other locations for worship. Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace, pray for us. Low Gluten Hosts Anyone wishing to receive a low gluten host (0.01%) at communion time due to a wheat intolerance, please visit the sacristy before Mass. It is a privilege to provide this for consecration. For our hearing impaired Parishioners, signing is available at the 4:00pm Mass on Saturdays. Rev. Fr. Damian Amantia TOR Rev. Fr. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., an inspired leader of the Civil Rights movement, sacrificed economic security and personal safety to challenge the status quo in the south. His personal life was not perfect any more than ours is. Yet he never strayed from his mission to work for equal rights. Nonviolent resistance was a hallmark of the work he did. January 21, 2018, Monday, is a National Holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembering Edward Hayes who passed on November 30, 2018. Ed joined the Navy in 1947 for two years. He received his BA degree from the Univ. of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 1965 and taught Spanish at Oak Park-River Forest High School in Oak Park, IL until his retirement in 1987. Excellent pianist learned by ear! Very quick-witted, and humorous, up till the day he died.
