Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations Matt 28:20 On Tuesday, May 15 th I was blessed to travel with Ascension Parishioners Jean & Dennis Schmitz and St. Bernard Parishioners Lori & Tom Kasel to the St. Paul Seminary. We were attending the graduation of the Archbishop Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute (CI) which began with Mass with Bishop Andrew Cozzens. On the ride down Jean and Lori had plenty of CI experiences to share with us, including the instructors and classes they liked most, the challenges attending class after a long day at work, how they were challenged to grow in their relationship with God through their classes, the joy of meeting fellow students from across our archdiocese who are struggling live out their faith, and the reward of learning [in my words] the WHY behind the WHAT of our Catholics beliefs. I did a quick count of the list of graduate: 181 in all. I noticed a spirit of joy pervading the whole evening. It was quite a blessing for me to be with these students and their spouses/loved ones for this joyous evening. For the last 2 years these adults have spent their Monday evenings delving into the Catechism of the Catholic Church which the CI describes as the road map for the journey in faith. The 4 pillars of the Catechism are: Creed: The Story in Miniature Sacraments: The Blessing Revealed and Communicated The Moral Life: Fulfillment in Beatitude Prayer: The Blessing Given and Received One of the real beauties of the CI is the nagging question which I heard surface throughout the evening festivities for the students: now what? In other words, now that I have a better understanding of my Catholic Faith, what does God want from me? The CI faculty gave an answer you and I can be grateful for: focus on building up your parish! Bishop Cozzens exhorted the graduate to be spirit-filled evangelists. Yes, we need these in our Church! Congratulations Jean & Lori! Fr. Gregory CALENDAR FOR ASCENSION AND ST. BERNARDS PARISHES Mon. Our goal is to keep active, young families as members of St. Bernard Parish. Active parishioners who are registered members of St. Bernard Church, and who do not otherwise qualify for a tuition discount or subsidy by reason of also being a member of the host school's parish, are invited to request tuition assistance for their children who are enrolled in K-12th grade in a neighboring Catholic School for the coming year. Please contact the parish office (952-466-2031) to request tuition assistance for the 2018-19 school year. Requests must be submitted by June 1, 2018. Each family must commit to being active in the life of St. Bernard Parish in an identifiable way (through discipleship, worship, social outreach, stewardship, building and grounds upkeep, and/or community building) to support our parish by giving of their time, talent, and treasure. Giving of one's time and talent means making Sunday/Saturday mass a weekly priority and volunteering in some aspect of the parish. A Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is a private weekend away from the distractions of daily life for couples in good marriages. Give your marriage this gift! The next available Weekends are Jul 13-15, 2018 in Buffalo, MN and Jul 27-29, 2018 in EAGAN, MN. Early registration is highly recommended.
