My Brother Knights, as Fr. Kalish states below we are ALL fathers. We need to step-up to the plate and be FATHERS and MEN of Christ. WE need to be the positive role models for all children, not some athlete being paid millions of dollars to not stand and honor our flag. My Brothers, be a MAN! Vivat Jesus. God Bless, Jim Preisendorfer <>< DD #15, PFN, PGK The Christian Man and the Love of the Father Father Jonathan D. Kalisch, O.P. Director of Chaplains and Spiritual Development Every man even those who don t have children of their own is called to fatherhood. His fatherhood consists of nurturing the vocations of those for whom the Lord has given him care and responsibility. In his recent apostolic exhortation on the call to holiness in today s world, Gaudete et Exsultate, Pope Francis highlights the central importance of the grace of discernment which seeks a glimpse of that unique and mysterious plan that God has for each of us (170). A father plays a key role in showing his children the love of God the Father, through which they experience, on a supernatural level, the knowledge of the unrepeatability of their own unique lives. Before a man is ever a spouse or a father, he himself is first a beloved son of God the Father. This is the mystery of discipleship our Lord Jesus Christ, especially in the Gospel of John, reveals over and over again. Knowing that he is a beloved son of the Eternal Father gives a man ordered priority to his life and relationships: first God, then his spouse and, finally, his children. Pope Francis reminds us that God s unique plan for each of us involves more than my temporal well-being, my satisfaction at having accomplished something useful, or even my desire for peace of mind. It has to do with the meaning of my life before the Father who knows and loves me, with the real purpose of my life, which nobody knows better than he (170). Reading these words, we cannot help but think of the ways in which our paternal and spiritual fathers assist us on the path of encounter with God the Father. Let us remind our brother Knights of their unparalleled role in revealing to their sons and daughters the treasure of the meaning of their lives in light of the love of God the Father. Vivat Jesus!

Winning the World for Christ A Knights of Columbus Perspective Staring down a challenge and conquering it is a monumental feat which takes courage, determination, and grit. Now, we ve been given one by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori. In May s Columbia magazine he makes this bold statement: the Knights of Columbus, as the world s largest Catholic lay organization, can and should take the lead in bearing witness to and spreading the Gospel. How do we accomplish that? We start by bringing a little P.R. to every event and project -- PRepare, PRomote, and PRoclaim. PRepare How many of you would paint your kitchen w/o first scraping off the loose paint, patching holes in the walls, and taping around the windows? Why, then, would you start a council project without thinking it through? Let s say Father Paul asked your council to spruce up the inside of the church. By thinking the project through you can get more guys involved and energized about helping, since you re asking for their input and making them feel needed. More Knights involved means more of their friends they talk to about what they re doing that weekend means the more people you ve reached out to about our faith. PRomote It s not always enough to simply put a blurb in your parish s bulletin or in the Mass announcements. Contrary to popular belief Bishop Lebasci outlawed invisible fences that zap you when you leave church grounds. Telling others what your council has planned isn t bragging. It s letting everyone know you re a Catholic organization that isn t afraid to help others. Why does our Order exist, if we re afraid say what we re about? When you PRepare the event, think of who you re trying to reach and PRomote it where they are. Maybe you re holding a raffle for Special Olympics. Special Olympians are athletes, right? So ask the local soccer league to hand out flyers to its players and coaches. Talk to other churches (Catholic or not) about putting notices in their bulletins. And don t forget about newspapers, radio stations, and local Cable Access TV. PRoclaim If you ve PRepared well and PRomoted the event as effectively as possible, you re going to draw people to attend and participate. Once they re there, do something radical talk to them! Let them hear in your voice and see in your eyes that you re doing this for Christ and His Church. Don t just shuffle through the motions. Get excited!!! Let your actions evangelize. Let the Holy Spirit light a proverbial fire in you and inspire others to ask why you re so alive for the Catholic faith. Then, tell them and ask them to join you! We are often too afraid to talk to others about Christ because we don t know what to say. Don t let that stop you. Remember, Jesus sent the disciples out, ordinary men as they were, and they changed the world! St. James tells us Show me your faith without works and I will you show you my faith through my works. Let those words be your inspiration. We can bear witness to the Gospel. We can lead our brothers and sisters to the glory of Heaven. We can win the world for Christ. I m willing to take up the challenge. Will you join me? Vivat Jesus, Ron Barnovsky, State Public Relations Chairman 603-809-6768 or barnovsky@comcast.net
