PENTECOST May 20, 2018 Most Reverend Edward K. Braxton Bishop of Belleville We, the people of St. Clare Catholic Parish, In the Diocese of Belleville, are called by God in baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Centered in the Eucharist, and strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we strive to live the Gospel and further the reign of God. We do this by creating a vibrant faith community, by actively promoting justice and evangelization, and by using our gifts in the service of God s people, to give God glory and reverence all of Creation. From Our Pastor... A Blessed Pentecost to You! As we celebrate this weekend the gifts of the Holy Spirit that flow in and through us, there are so many people and things for which to be grateful all of them from God! I try regularly in this column to acknowledge the many volunteers in our parish who give generously of their time and talents. Here are a couple others that I highlight this Pentecost: The Ordination of John Gomez to the Permanent Diaconate. John and his wife Mary have been a blessing to our parish for many years already in their various ministries. We honor John and Mary in a new way this weekend for the five years of formation they have been through and for the blessings yet to come! We highlighted their story in our newsletter recently. Our Parish Staff is a group of people who go above their duties to help make this parish run smoothly and be the voice and hands of Jesus compassionate Presence. Some of their ministries are out front and you see them active in the parish. Others do so much behind the scenes with listening ears, patient problem-solving, and putting up with the pastor s shortcomings. When you see them, be sure and express your gratitude with me for all they do! A couple other signs of the Spirit coming up: Anointing of the Sick Sacrament will be celebrated next Saturday, May 26, at the 5:00 PM Mass. This is for all who are sick in body or mind that need the Spirit to bring them healing and hope. Please invite and help bring to church those you know who need this sacrament. I will be on retreat May 27-June 6. This is a special retreat as I will also be serving as chaplain for a Dynamic Catholic group of 25 as we make part of the Camino spiritual walk to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the tomb of St. James the Apostle. Our Communal Anointing of the Sick Saturday, May 26 at 5:00 Mass Even if you and your loved ones are healthy, please come to this beautiful celebration to support and pray for the members of our community who are in need of healing and strength.
