Dear Parishioners Happy New Year! During these past Holy Days we have celebrated the great mysteries of what we believe The Nativity of Our Lord, The Incarnation, The Word made Flesh, God among us. To live among us is such a powerful witness of God's love for His people.. The Holy Family was celebrated last Sunday. We all come from families with our imperfections and weaknesses. This is an opportunity for all of us to begin this new year with openness, forgiveness and to accept each other as we are. Epiphany is the great celebration of all people. The Magi came from different regions to honor the New Born King. Our Lord came for all, regardless of skin color and language. Melchior was a Persian scholar, Caspar was a king of India and Balthazar was a king of Arabia. They are described as " falling down" "kneeling" or "bowing" in the worship of Our Lord Jesus Christ. They came with great respect to honor the new born King. As we begin this new year, 2019, may we continue to grow in our faith. May 2019 bring us good health and a peaceful heart. Let us continue to grow as a parish family of St. Joseph's. I would like to personally THANK YOU all for your cards and gifts this Christmas. As your priest I appreciate all of your support and ask for your continuous prayers for 2019. As we reflect, Jesus is walking ahead of us. He is always before us to lead the way. This is the source of our confidence and our joy: to be his disciples, to remain with him, to walk behind him and to follow him. Have a blessed New Year Your brother in Christ CALLED TO SERVE For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I. But he did as Jesus asked, and the Holy Spirit descended and heaven s voice spoke to Jesus, You are my beloved Son. Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve God s word. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
